A National Day of Prayer observance was held at the Dillon County Courthouse at noon on Thursday, May 2nd. A sizable crowd was in attendance. Several pastors from various faiths offered prayers, read scripture, and led the audience in song. Participating pastors included Dr. Greg Hyler of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and President of the Dillon County Christian Ministerial Alliance, Rev. Dickie Cullum of Dillon First Baptist Church, Rev. Rob Pierce of Latta Baptist Church, Rev. James Orr of Pyerian Baptist Church, Rev. Joey Nelms of Hamer Church of God, Rev. Anthony Alford, Dr. Rick Rogers of Open Door Community Church, Rev. Mike Summerlin, Rev. Ron Taylor of the Pee Dee Baptist Association, Rev. Frankie Thomas, Rev. Austin Wynn of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Chaplain Haywood Proctor, who serves as chaplain at the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, Rev. Mike Rouse of Main Street United Methodist Church, and Rev. Rev. Ron Taylor of the Pee Dee Baptist Association leads a responsive reading from selected verses of Psalm 145 and Matthew 12:21. The scripture theme is “In His Name The Nations Will Put Their Trust (Matthew 12:21).”

A sizable crowd attended the National Day of Prayer service held at the front steps of the Dillon County Courthouse on Thursday at 12 noon.
The welcome and opening prayer was given by Dr. Greg Hyler, pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and President of the Dillon County Christian Ministerial Alliance.
Rev. Eugen “Buddy” Bach of Latta Presbyterian Church read Psalms 57:9-11.
Dr. Dickie Cullum of Dillon First Baptist Church gave a prayer for the nation. (Rev. Cullum’s prayer can be seen on our website, www.thedillon herald.com.) This was followed by Rev. Rob Pierce, who presented the prayer of President George Washington.

Rev. James Orr of Pyerian Baptist Church gave a prayer for spiritual awakening in South Carolina.
Rev. Joey Nelms of Hamer Church of God read Psalms 119: 9-16.
Rev. Anthony Alford gave a powerful prayer for the people and churches of Dillon County.
Rev. Rick Rogers of Open Door Community Church read Psalms 33:12-22 followed by Rev. Mike Summerlin, who gave prayer for the military.

Dillon County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Haywood Proctor prayed for schools, first responders, officers of the law, firemen and those who offer themselves for others through community service (ex.: Hospice).
Rev. Mike Rouse of Main Street United Methodist Church led the hymn, “Amazing Grace.”
Rev. Fred Gough of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church gave the closing prayer.
