Colonel James Colonel Todd, Jr.

Colonel James Colonel Todd, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully at his home on January 27, 2023 with his wife, Peggy by his side. He was born in Charlotte, NC on May 13, 1935. He was the son of the late James Colonel Todd, Sr. and Silva Jewell Todd. He was married to the late Mamie Elizabeth Coughneour Todd for 43 years. Together they raised their four children.
He graduated from Laurinburg High School in 1953 and continued his education at Wake Forest University graduating with honors in 1957. While there he was a brother of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Jimmy was a veteran that proudly served the US Army Reserves for over 25 years, retiring as a full Colonel.
He was owner of Todd Equipment Company International Harvester in Bennettsville. He loved “Red” tractors. He later joined SC Farm Bureau in Horry County as Agent Manager where he later retired.
Jimmy served as president of Bennettsville Rotary Club and also served with the Jaycee’s.
He was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church for many years. Later he joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hamer SC serving as Deacon, Adult Sunday School teacher and choir director. He made his Emmaus walk and continued serving on the Emmaus Committee. Jimmy loved his church and his church family.
Jimmy took pride in collecting old International tractors. Often entering in many parades, festivals and tractor shows coming home with trophies and ribbons. He also loved collecting toy tractors.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 20 years, Peggy M. Todd of the home; daughters, Liz Todd Stubbs (Bill), Susan Todd Overstreet (Larry), Jimmy Carol Todd Avent (Mark); stepson, Wayne R. Morrison (Sandra); a brother, Charles E. Todd (Anne); and sister-in-law, Joy Patterson (Garland), sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his late wife he was also preceded in death by his son, Daniel Currie Todd, brother, Rodney L. Todd and a granddaughter Jimmy Carol (Jaycie) Alexander.
Even though Jimmy was a business man, he was truly a farmer at heart. He enjoyed his later years farming and gardening along side his wife Peggy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with visitation being between1:00-2:00 P.M. Burial with full military honors will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville following the service.
Pall Bearers are the grandchildren, Currie Todd, Todd Stubbs, Britne’ Stubbs, Kirkham Avent, Hammond Avent, Slade Avent, Michael Dean Wheatley, Conley Wheatley, and Jayden Overstreet.
