The Lake View Lady Wild Gators took down the Latta Lady Vikings 66-59 in varsity basketball action played in Latta before a standing-room only group of fans on Friday, January 28.
The hard-fought battle between these two county rivals began with the first play of the game and ended with the same velocity.
Although Lake View held an early 11-5 lead after the first quarter of play, Latta fought and continued to fight. In the second period of play, Latta outscored Lake View by 1-point, 19-18. In the third period of play, the Latta Vikings pumped in 3 more points than the Wild Gators 18-15…and Lake View’s lead was cut to 2 points, 44-42. Lake View outscored Latta 22-17 in the final period of play. Although Latta fought back, the Wild Gators prevailed to remain on top of Region 6 A.
Lake View’s Jaleya Ford led all scorers with 25 points with six 2-point baskets, four 3-point baskets, and a free throw. Tianaa Hamilton added seven 2-point baskets and 3 free throws for 17 points. Sa’Nyah Williams place 14 points onto the scoreboard with three 2-point baskets, two 3-point baskets, and 2 free throws. Gwendasia Page connected for three 2-points baskets and 2 free throws for 8 points. Zykiar Wters sank a 2-point basket.
Latta’s Kaliya Herman led the Lady Vikings with 19 points. She sank five 3-point baskets and two 2-point baskets. Makayla Legette connected for three 2-point baskets and two 3-point baskets to place 11 points onto the scoreboard. Shawniza Bethea sank two 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 2 free throws for 9 points, and Lala Hyatt connected for three 2-point baskets and a free throw for 7 points. Jasmine Jones sank a 3-point basket.
Lake View committed 6 fouls in the first half and 5 fouls in the second half while Latta committed 6 fouls in the first half and 9 fouls in the second half. Latta is 10-8 overall and 3-2 in Region 6 A. Lake View is 16-2 overall and 5-0 in Region 6 A. Head Coach Sandra Gomillion’s Latta Lady Vikings will host Hannah-Pamplico today (Tuesday, January 31) at 6:00 p.m.
Head Coach Larry Inman’s Lake View Lady Wild Gators will host Green Sea Floyds today (Tuesday, January 31) at 6:15 p.m.
