Latta Head Coach Brandon Iseman is busy preparing for the opening of the 2022 football season at Latta.
The Latta Vikings jumped out of the pot into the frying pan as Latta has joined the 1-A powerhouse conference this year after having played in 2-A. This 1-A conference is loaded with talent and many championship trophies.
Iseman has been a head coach for 10 of his 11 years. He knows what has to be done to get his team ready for the upcoming season.
Latta’s players have been in the weight room and have been conditioning themselves for the season opener on Friday, August 19, at 7:30 p.m. as Latta hosts the Mullins Auctioneers.
Coming off of a 1-9 season last year, Latta wants to get into the win column early in the season and continue to win.
The team has a large junior class this year to help fill the void of losing 5 players from last year’s squad.
Although Latta lost defensive coach Buddy Wright, Latta has added Sport Sawyer as the quarterback and defensive ends coach and Noah Earnest as the tight ends and defensive tackles coach. Other members of the coaching staff are Matt Caulder, Jeremy Oxendine, Chris Page, Clint Brown, Bobby Richardson, Malcolm Short, and of course, Head Coach Brandon Iseman.
Latta lost 5 players from last year’s team but have returned almost all of their starters plus a large junior class.
This year Latta should be much improved with a great experience level. Latta has an offensive line that has a great deal of experience while Latta is lacking in the wide receiver department. The Vikings have been committed and working hard during the offseason.
The Vikings will employ a new defense this season.
Latta will take each tough opponent one week at a time as they take each game and compete to the best of their ability. Each game will be a tough challenge.
In scrimmage action, The Latta Vikings will face Cheraw on Thursday, August 4, in Cheraw. On Monday, the Vikings will face Chesterfield at Chesterfield. On Friday, August 12, the Latta Vikings will face Darlington in Lake City.
After the Vikings face the Mullins Auctioneers in Mullins at 7:30 on Friday, August 19, Latta will travel to East Clarendon. On Friday, September 2, McBee will travel to Latta to take on the Latta Vikings.
The following Friday, September 9, Lee Central will be in town. On September 23, the Cheraw Braves will invade Latta. Lamar will be in town on Friday, September 30. On October 7, the Latta Vikings will travel to Hannah-Pamplico. On October 14, the Lake View Wild Gators will host Latta. Latta has a “bye” on October 21. Latta will close out the regular season in Latta as they host Green Sea Floyds.
All regular season games are at 7:30 p.m.
