The Hannah-Pamplico Lady Raiders defeated the Lake View Lady Wild Gators 8-0 in varsity softball action played in Lake View on Wednesday, April 13.
A C Stone hit a grounder to short and arrived at first safely as the first for a lead-off single against Lake View’s ace pitcher, Raven Locklear. Jadan Lee followed with a grounder to short and Stone was thrown out at second. Riley Calcutt hit a grounder to short that was turned into a double play by the Lake View defense to retire the side in the top of the first inning.
Kadence Poston quickly disposed of the Lake View offense in 1-2-3 fashion to close out the first inning with no score.
The Lady Raiders changed that quickly in the top of the second inning. After scoring 2 runs and with the bases loaded and 2 outs, Lake View brought in young Azaleigh Arnette to stop Hannah-Pamplico. However, the Lady Raiders managed to score 3 more runs from the players already on base in the inning.
Lake View was unable to score a run in the bottom of the second inning as Poston only faced 4 batters for Lake View.
Chloe Cooper hit a home run to lead off the top of the third inning and give Hannah-Pamplico a 7-0 lead over Lake View. Locklear faced 5 batters in the top of the third inning.
Once again in the bottom of the third inning, Lake View sent only 4 batters to the plate. After 3 innings, the Lady Raiders were up 7-0. That, too, would change.
In the top of the fourth inning, A C Stone hit a home run as the lead-off hitter.
In the bottom of the fourth, Raven Locklear hit a hot grounder between third and short for a lead-off single. After a fly out to center, Lake View’s Cox and Scott were retired with strikes to close out the fourth. Becca Cox also managed a hit for Lake View in the game.
Raven Locklear was charged with the loss. She pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and allowed 6 runs, 3 hits, struck out 1, and walked 4. Azeleigh Arnette pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and allowed 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and struck out 6.
Lake View will face Marion at home on Monday, April 18, at 6:00 p.m.

Latta defeated the visiting Darlington Falcons 9-4 in varsity baseball action played in Latta on Tuesday, April 19.
Latta’s Christian Brigman retired the Darlington batters in the top of the first inning in 1-2-3 fashion.
Latta jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as Parker McCormick led off with a single up the middle. Colin Minshew hit a grounder by short to place runners on first and second. Dylan Shelley hit one to deep left center for a stand-up double and a rbi. Seth Minshew hit a sac fly to center and picked up a rbi. Andrew Bryant hit one that dropped into short center. Ethan Lee garnered a walk to load the bases. Darlington’s pitcher, Ashley Avin, retired the next 2 batters to stop the scoring threat and leave the bases loaded. However, after the first inning of play, Latta was up 4-0.
Latta’s Brigman faced only 4 batters in the top of the second inning with Chase Watson picking up a single on a hit to right center.
Darlington’s Ashley Avin faced only 4 batters in the bottom of the second inning with a single to center.
Asley Avin hit a hot grounder by third for a single to lead off the top of the third inning for the Falcons. Ty’Jawan Keith hit a grounder to second and Avin was thrown out at second with Keith arriving safely at first. Keith stole second. Semar Simes hit one to deep center for a stand-up double and a rbi to cut Latta’s lead to 3, 4-1. Milijah Holt hit a grounder to second and was out at first with Simes advancing to third. Shane Oliver hit a grounder to third that was too hot to handle and Simes scored to cut Latta’s lead to 2, 4-2. The next Darlington batter struck out watching to end the inning.
Latta’s lead-off batter was set down on strikes by Avin. Ethan Lee hit a grounder up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error. He advanced to third on a passed ball. Latta’s next batter was retired watching strike 3. Gatlin Johnson lined one to left for a single and a rbi. The following batter hit a fly to right to end the third inning with Latta up 5-2.
After Christian Brigman struck out the lead-off batter in the top of the fourth inning, Ashley Avin hit a grounder to short right and advanced him to second on the throw. He also moved to third on a passed ball. Ty’Jawan Keith hit one to right for a double and 2 rbi to cut Latta’s lead to 1, 5-4. Shemar Simes garnered a walk. Milijah Holt hit a grounder over the second base that was handled by the shortstop who threw him out to end the inning.
Latta’s Parker McCormick hit a grounder down the third base line for a lead-off single. Colin Minshew arrived on an error to place runners on first and second. Dylan Shelley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Seth Minshew hit a grounder to third that was thrown to home to stop the run. However, an error allowed the runner to score and the other runners to advance. After Avin struck out the next batter, Ethan Lee hit a fly to left for out 2. Justin Stutler garnered a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Gatlin Johnson walked to place runners on the corners. Mason Weatherford also garnered a walk to load the bases. Caleb Clark came out of the bull pen for the Falcons. He managed to get the next batter to fly out to right to end the threat. After 4 innings of play, Latta was up 9-4.
Christian Brigman faced only 4 batters in the top of the fifth inning with DeMarco Hannah arriving safely at first on a hit that bounced over the short stop’s head.
Latta will travel to Andrews on Tuesday, April 26, for a 6:00 p.m. game.

The Latta Vikings picked up an 8-7 win over the Darlington Falcons in varsity baseball.
Latta’s Gatlin Johnson pitched 4 innings and allowed 3 hits, 4 runs of which 3 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 6. John Hucks pitched and allowed 2 earned runs, no hits, and walked 1, and struck out no one. Blake Hamilton pitched 1 inning and allowed no hits, 1 run that was not earned, walked 2, and struck out 1.
Darlington’s Caleb Clark pitched 2 innings and allowed 5 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 1, and struck out 2. Shemar Simes pitched 2 innings and allowed 3 hits, 5 runs of which 1 was earned, walked 1, and struck out 4. Darlington managed 3 hits in the game with Shemar Simes with a single, a walk, and 2 rbi in 3 at-bats while DeMarco Hannah had a single and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Gage McKenzie had a double in 4 at-bats. Latta connected for 8 hits with Colin Minshew with a double, a single, and scored 2 runs in 2 at-bats. Austin Brigman had 2 singles and a rbi in 2 at-bats. Gatlin Johnson had a single and a walk in 2 at-bats while Ethan Lee had a single, a walk, and scored a run in 2 at-bats. Parker McCormick had a single and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. Dylan Shelley had a home run, 2 rbi, and scored 2 runs in his 2 at-bats. Kaleb Hyatt and Seth Minshew each scored a run in the game.
