The Latta Vikings defeated the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 12-3 on Wednesday, March 27, in varsity baseball action played in Latta.
The Vikings took an early lead in the first inning as Collin Minshew drove in runs on a triple, a single by Dylan Shelley, an error, and a groundout by Seth Minshew.
In the second inning, Minshew had a single and a double in the third inning to have 3 hits in 3 at-bats.
Hannah-Pamplico’s Ty Daves garnered a walk scoring a run in the top of the second inning that was answered by Latta with a run of their own when Minshew singled and a run scored.
Minshew picked up the win for Latta Vikings. He pitched five innings, allowed three runs on three hits, and struck out six. Luke Haselden and Blake Hamilton came out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Bazen Locklair took the loss for the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders Varsity. He pitched four innings and allowed nine runs on eight hits.
Latta Vikings collected 11 hits during the game. Minshew, Parker McCormick, and Minshew all had multiple hits for Latta Vikings.
Latta will host Marion today (Tuesday, April 5) at 6:00 p.m.

The Latta Vikings lose 6-5 heartbreaker to the West Florence Knights in varsity baseball action played in Florence on the last play in the bottom of the tenth inning with the score tied at 5 when Rayton Rogers connected for a home run.
The Knights got things going in the top of the first inning when Cooper Coleman singled to score a run.
West Florence managed to go ahead 4 runs in the fourth inning.
Latta managed 4 runs in the top of the fifth to knot the score when the Vikings’ Andrew Bryant had a sac fly.
Mac Sawyer earned the win for West Florence. The fireballer surrendered zero runs on 3 hits over 5 innings, struck out 6 and walked no one. Coleman threw 1 inning in relief out of the bullpen. Latta’s John Hucks took the loss. He pitched 4 innings and allowed 3 hits, 1 run, walked 1, and struck out 6. Andrew Bryant started the game for the Latta Vikings. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed 3 hits, 2 runs, and walked 1.
Ty Suggs started the game for the Knights. He pitched 4 innings and allowed 1 hit, 1 run, struck out 4, and walked no one.
The Latta Vikings had 7 hits in the game. Ethan Lee and Parker McCormick had 2 hits each.
Brody Cook led the Knights with two hits in 5 at-bats.

The Latta Lady Vikings edged the Hannah-Pamplico Lady Raiders 1-0 in varsity softball action played in Pamplico on Wednesday, March 30. Latta’s Jayla Jackson pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 3, struck out 4, and allowed no earned run. Maddie Berry pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 1 hit, walked 1, struck out 4, and allowed no earned run.
Kadence Poston took the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, struck out 8, and allowed no earned runs.
Latta’ Jayla Jackson had a double in 3 at-bats while Maddie Berry had a hit and a rbi in 3 at-bats.
Latta is 16-1 overall and 8-0 in regular season.
Latta is coached by Head Coach Jenny Melton and staff.

The Latta Parks and Recreation softball and baseball season opened on Friday, April 1.
The opening ceremonies were held on Friday, April 1, with Master of Ceremonies Ricky Bryant at the microphone as Latta Recreation Director Jermaine Wright assisted.
Immediately after the prayer by Cedric Page and the National Anthem performed by Katelyn Johnson, the Family of the late Ann Jackson were presented a plaque in recognition of all of her efforts, time, talent, coaching, and whatever was needed to help build the recreation program to where it is today. Balloons were also released in her memory. Each player and each coach were introduced to the large crowd gathered at the event.
Also, on an adjacent field, a group of youth and adults that were present participated in a fund-raiser game with each player making a donation.
The teams continued to play on Saturday, April 2. Come out and support your team.

The ride home for the Dillon Lady Wildcats was a long one as they suffered a 10-2 loss to the Georgetown Lady Bulldogs in varsity softball action played in Georgetown on Friday, April 1.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats held a 2-0 lead after 2 innings of play in the game. However, the Georgetown Lady Bulldogs responded and took the lead and the win.
Georgetown’s Jordan picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 5 hits, 2 runs that were not earned, walked 2, and struck out 9.
Dillon’s Paige Sherman pitched 3 innings and allowed 8 hits, 9 runs of which 4 were earned, walked 1, and struck out 5. Chesney Caddell pitched 3 innings and allowed 1 hit, 1 run that was not earned, walked 2, and struck out 7.
The Lady Bulldogs’ Braelynn Brewington had 3 hits and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. Ava Britton had 2 hits, a walk, 1 rbi, and scored a run in her 3 at-bats. Ellbie Daniels had a hit, 2 rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 4 at-bats. Allison Welch had a hit, a walk, a rbi, and scored 3 runs in her 3 at-bats. Anna Freeman had a hit and 3 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Catherine Wall had a hit and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. Kori Altman had a hit and a rbi in her 4 at-bats. Jordan had a walk and scored a run in her 2 at-bats.
Dillon’s Makayla Huggins had 2 hits and rbi in her 2 at-bats. Jenascia Lester had 2 hits and scored a run in her 3 at-bats. Makenna Meekins had a hit in 3 at-bats. Cierra Grice had a walk and scored a run in her 3 at-bats.

The Lake View Lady Wild Gators returned home on Friday, April 1, with a 7-1 win over the Johnsonville Lady Flashes in a varsity softball game played in Johnsonville on Friday, April 1.
Lake View got on the scoreboard with 4 runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 and held that lead until the Lady Flashes placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 3 runs. Lake View scored 3 runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-run lead, 7-1.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 5 hits, 1 run, struck out 6, and walked 1.
Hannah Graham took the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 9 hits, 7 runs, struck out 7, and walked 5. Lake View committed 1 error in the game, and Johnsonville committed 6 errors.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear was perfect at the plate with 2 hits and a rbi in 2 at-bats. Azeleigh Arnette had 2 hits and 2 rbi in 4-bats.
Baylee Miller had 2 hits and a rbi in 4 at-bats. Baxleigh Arnette had a hit and a rbi in 3 at-bats.
Becca Cox and Emma King each had a hit in 3 at-bats.

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, Latta High School Track and Field hosted a meet between Dillon, East Clarendon, Latta, Lee Central, Marion, and Mullins.
In the girls competition, Lee Central won with a score of 95 points, followed by Latta (86 points) and Dillon (67 points). In the boys competition, Dillon finished first with 169.5 points, followed by Latta (110.5 points) and Marion (65.5 points).

Individual event winners were as follows:

between the two schools. The two schools split the event with Latta winning the boys events and Lee Central winning the girls events. The scores were Latta boys 92, Lee Central boys 26, Lee Central girls 70, and Latta girls 51.
