Omicron Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® Supports Community

The Omicron Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® located in Marion is pleased to give back to the communities of Marion and Dillon counties with monetary donations. Chapter President, Sandra Barnes stated, “despite the current pandemic the members wanted to uphold its mission and provide service to all mankind”. The chapter wanted to make a difference in the lives of children and decided to focus its giving on students and families. With this focus in mind, Omicron Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated ® was able to donate over $9,500 in support of students and families.
A $200 donation was given to Buddy Walk. As part of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Family Connection presented Buddy Walk–to celebrate families, their Special Buddies and their fundraising accomplishments.
Omicron Omicron Omega Chapter also donated $800 to Kultivating Kings, a mentorship program, to assist with taking students on a HBCU tour of Claflin University located in Orangeburg, SC.
The Community Excellence and Scholarships Gala which recognizes outstanding community members who go above and beyond for Dillion county was given $800 for student scholarships.
The chapter selected one family from Dillon, Lake View, Latta, Marion and Mullins and provided a catered holiday meal which included a meat (turkey or chicken), vegetables and all the trimmings. The total cost for this project was $1,925.
A donation in the amount of $500 was given to each of the following high schools Dillon, Lake View, Latta, Marion and Mullins totaling $2,500.
The chapter has 27 students enrolled in the #CAP program who will each get $100. #CAP, an acronym for College Admissions Process, is the signature program of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. #CAP is a college preparation program specially designed to assist high school juniors and seniors’ students with navigating the college admissions process.
In an effort to provided a brighter future for deserving students in need. $2,000 was donated to HBCU Allen University located in Columbia, South Carolina. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is committed to the preservation and continued financial support of one of this nation’s most valuable resources — Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Chapter President, Sandra Barnes, stated that “as a sorority we help each other, and that also means helping the communities around us. As we move into the new year with fresh ideas, we will keep providing service to all mankind in our hearts and in our minds”
