The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the visiting Timmonsville Whirlwinds 61-51 in varsity basketball action played in Lake View on Friday, January 7.
Although Timmonsville controlled the tip-off, Lake View’s Shaheed Dawkins scored the first point of the game on a free throw after being fouled.
Tremel Echols sank a 3-point shot to take the lead for Timmonsville. Both teams continued to take the lead back and forth until Lake View went up 16-10 after the first quarter of play. In the first quarter, Lake View committed 4 fouls while Timmonsville was guilty of 2 fouls.
In the second period of play, Lake View began to gain a little momentum and by halftime Lake View was up by 15 points, 28-13. Timmonsville committed 4 fouls in the second quarter, and Lake View committed 3 fouls.
The two teams exchanged baskets throughout the third quarter. However, as the quarter ended, Lake View managed to hold on to a 15-point lead while committing 4 fouls in the quarter while Timmonsville committed only 1 foul. The Lady Wild Gators held a 13-8 lead after the first period of play while committing 2 fouls while the Lady Whirlwinds committed only 1 foul. By halftime the Lake View lead had increased to 27 points, 39-12. Lake View was guilty of 2 fouls in the second period of play while Timmonsville committed 3 fouls.
Lake View continued to build on the lead and by the end of the third period of play were up 65-15. Each team committed 2 fouls in this period.
