AKA Caregivers Observance Held

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® Omicron Omicron Omega Chapter hosted our annual AKA Caregivers’ Day Observance.
This year, National Caregivers Observance Day was November 19, 2021. Each year a day is set aside to provide support to those who care for loved ones by providing quality and compassionate care on a daily basis.

During this special observance, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® have nominated and invited caregivers in the community to a celebratory event to provide much-needed support and reprieve as they are honored for the important work they do by showing care, love and support on a daily basis as Caregivers.

Omicron Omicron Omega’s Caregivers’ Day Observance took place on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at The Milton Troy Sr Hall, 106 Gapway Street, Mullins, SC from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. The nominated Caregivers received well-deserved respite, information related to providing care for specific diagnoses, as well as the chance to have dialogue with other caregivers about methods of caring for their loved ones.
Our speaker, Lakiesha Lighty, LCSW-Independent Practitioner and member of Omicron Omicron Omega Chapter will help provide strategies for assisting with self-care behaviors to eliminate and decrease vulnerabilities and risks associated with the stress of caregiving.

Women’s Healthcare and Wellness chairman, Janel Garrett-Vaught hopes this AKA Caregivers’ Day Observance event will demonstrate to caregivers that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated ® locally and Internationally understands the sacrifices caregivers make on a daily basis. We are thankful for their dedication, perseverance and unselfishness. Sister Fannie Mason was awarded the 2021 Caregiver of the Year Award for her diligence and dedication to caring for many individuals in Marion County.
To know Ms. Fannie Mason is to love her.
She lives by the scripture 1 John 4:20—If someone says, “I love God,: and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
Her caregiving is evident enough to show that she not only loves God, but loves her brothers and sisters here on Earth.
