Herald Wins Two S.C. Press News Awards

The Dillon Herald was the recipient of two awards in the S.C. Press Association Newspaper Awards contest.
The announcement was made during a virtual meeting last week.
Betsy Finklea won second place in Newspaper’s Use Of Social Media. This category included all weeklies. This award recognizes excellence, effectiveness and innovation in social media use by the newspaper staff. Factors considered include the use of social media tools, strategy, reach, impact, and innovative uses of social media. Judges considered appropriateness of content, timeliness, efficacy, innovation, creativity, impact, and results. The contest was for the body of work. The Dillon Herald currently operates a page on Facebook®, The Dillon Herald group on Facebook®, The Dillon Herald Classified Group on Facebook®, The Dillon Herald Twitter page, The Dillon Herald Instagram page, and The Dillon Herald YouTube channel.
Betsy Finklea also won second place for Government Beat Reporting. This award included all medium and large weekly newspapers combined. Criteria included enterprise, writing quality and effectiveness in explaining government matters. This award is for the body of the writer’s work, not an individual story. Entered stories included the meeting regarding the notification of termination to County Administrator Tony Clyburn, County Administrator Tony Clyburn fires back at press conference, and the discussion of Sunday Alcohol Sales in the City of Dillon
Finklea celebrated her 30th year at The Dillon Herald in September.
