By Dr. Miranda Page
Great Expectations Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Back-To-School program was held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
The theme of the program was “Geared Up, Ready to Go Back to School.”
The purpose of the program was to help youth be prepared to enter 2021-2022 school year equipped with the tools needed to have a positive and successful outcome.
The youth learned natural and spiritual life lessons to apply to their daily lives. They will utilize skills during the school days to come.
The upcoming year will be challenging for some youth due to returning to a normal school setting after what was experienced last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prayerfully the youth will take with them the valuable advice from each speaker.
The youth were motivated, encouraged and prayed over.
Each youth was given a bookbag filled with school supplies, hygiene items, and a meal to take home.
The welcome was by Pastor Raymond F. Davis, III. The master of ceremony was Cedric G. Page. The speakers for the program were: Rashawn Aaron – The Village Educational LLC; Felicia McCollum – Assistant Principal at Dillon Middle School; Sheriff Douglas Pernell – Dillon County; Marcus McGirt – Save Our Youth Mentoring Movement; Angela Houston – Eastern Girl Scouts of South Carolina Troop 1204 of Latta, and Stephanie Rogers-Samuel – Educator. The Unity Prayer was by Pastor Davis for the students and educators for the school year.
After final remarks, the program was closed with the blessing of the food and dismissal by Pastor Davis.
