Gators Defeat Southside Christian In Game One

The Lake View Wild Gators defeated Southside Christian 11-2 in the varsity baseball Class A first round of the State Championship played in Simpsonville, S.C., on Tuesday, June 1.
After holding Lake View scoreless in the top of the first inning, Southside Christian placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning that started with a Brock Holder double that scored a run. Southside Christian held the lead until the top of the third inning when Lake View tied the game at 2 when Thomas Skipper hit a home run and 2 runs scored. Lake View added 2 runs in the top of the fourth inning when Braxton Dimery singled and 2 runs scored. Lake View added 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Wild Gators added 4 runs in the top of the sixth inning on a Noah Carter grand slam.
Thomas Skipper picked up the win for Lake View. He pitched 7 innings and allowed 5 hits, walked 2, struck out 9, and allowed 2 earned runs.
George Massingille began on the mound for Southside Christian. He pitched 4 innings and allowed 8 hits, walked 1, struck out 3, and allowed 4 earned runs. Dru Nelson pitched 1.1 inning and allowed 2 hits, walked no one, struck out no one, and allowed 1 earned run. Matthew Mills pitched 1 inning and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, struck out 1, and allowed 3 earned runs. Jay Israel pitched 0.2 inning and allowed 1 hit, walked 4, struck out no one, and allowed 3 earned runs.
Lake View picked up 13 hits in the game with Noah Carter hitting a home run, a double, and 5 rbi in his 4 at-bats while Thomas Skipper had a home run, a single, and 3 rbi in his 4 at-bats. Braxton Dimery had a single and 2 rbi in his 4 at-bats. Michael McInnis, Michael McDaniel, and Luke Price each had 2 singles in 3 at-bats. Marquise Johnson had 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
Khalil Tolson had 2 singles and a rbi in 3 at-bats to lead Southside Christian. Brock Holder had a double and a rbi in his 2 at-bats. Tyler Harof and Leif Busby each had a single in 3 at-bats.
Southside Christian committed 2 errors in the game while Lake View committed 1 error.
Lake View will host the second round of the Class A State Championship today (Thursday, June 3).
