Senate Report: Are You Ready For Summer?

Are you ready for the summer? The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) just announced that, “Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.” What are you looking forward to doing this summer?
States are beginning to lift coronavirus restrictions and people are happily making plans to do the things they have been waiting and wanting to do the most. A recent study that shows:
• Fifty-six percent of Americans say they are look forward to going on holiday trips in the U.S. or abroad and going on spontaneous day trips.
• Around half of Americans are looking forward to going to parties such as birthdays or weddings (56%), bars or restaurants (52%), indoor cinemas or theaters (52%), and large public gatherings such as sporting or music events (50%)
Americans with children are excited to get their children out of the house.
• Fifty-two percent of Americans with children are looking forward to taking their children to visit their grandparents.
• Half of Americans with children are looking forward to sending their children back to school, with another sixteen percent reporting that their child or children are already attending school in-person.
Other studies find many are looking forward to simpler deeply personal activities:
• Going to a group lunch with co-workers.
• Hugging friends.
• Seeing grandchildren.
• Seeing smiles
• Singing in my church choir
• The Medical University of South Carolina shows that counties with higher vaccination rates show a decrease in COVID-19 spread. We must continue doing everything we can to make our state and country safe and protected from COVID-19. Of the 5,118,425 residents, 3,136,260 South Carolina residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine!
What are you looking forward to doing? What do you miss doing the most? Let’s continue following the CDC’s recommendations and get vaccinated. Summertime fun is just around the corner.
