Lady Cats Take Down Landsharks
The Dillon Lady Wildcats handed the visiting Oceanside Collegiate Academy Lady Landsharks an 11-1 loss in the run-ruled shortened 5-inning varsity softball game played in Dillon on Saturday, May 15.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats placed 3 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning on a grounder by Cierra Grice to short who arrived at first base safely followed by a walk garnered by Qy Wilson. On a passed ball, both players advanced to the next bases. Abby Bristow hit one to center for a double and 2 rbi. Bristow stole third base. Lexie Rogers hit one to right a single and a rbi. Oceanside’s Malaka Belser had a lead-off, stand-up double on a hit to deep right in the top of the second inning. Anna Amell hit one up the middle for a single and a rbi. This would be the only score of the game for the Lady Landsharks.
Dillon added 3 runs in the bottom of the third inning on a walk by Qy Wilson, a bunt by Abby Bristow, a walk by Lexie Rogers, and a double hit to left by Logan Grice who picked up 2 rbi. Paige Sherman hit a grounder to short to pick up a rbi in the inning.
The bottom of the fourth inning proved to be a 4-run scoring for the Lady Wildcats as Cierra Grice connected for a single, a throwing error, and a catching error to allow 1 of those runs across home plate. Ny Wilson hit one between left and center for a stand-up double and a rbi. Logan Grice hit 1 to right for a single and a rbi.
Dillon added a run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Paige Sherman picked up the win. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 3 hits, no walks, struck out 6, and allowed 1 earned run.
Anna Armell pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 8 hits, walked 4, and allowed 11 runs of which 6 were earned.
Dillon’s Abby Bristow had a double, a single, and 3 rbi in her 3 at-bats while Logan Grice had a double and 3 rbi in her 3 at-bats. Lexie Rogers had a single and a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Ny Wilson had a double and a rbi in her 3-at-bats. Cierra Grice had 2 singles in her 4 at-bats.
Oceanside’s Anna Amell had a single and a rbi in her 2 at-bats while Malaka Belser had a double in her 2 at-bats. Zada Morgan had a single in her 2 at-bats.
Oceanside committed 4 errors in the game, and Dillon did not commit an error.

Gators Get Big Win
The return trip from Charleston, S.C., was easier for the Lake View Wild Gators who picked up a 24-4 win over Lowcountry Leadership in the run-ruled, 4-inning postseason playoff game in varsity baseball held on Saturday, May 15.
The bats were alive as Lake View scored 3 times in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead that Lowcountry Leadership answered with a score of their own in the bottom of the first inning.
Neither team could muster a score in the second inning.
However, things quickly changed in the top of the third inning as Lake View sent 9 runs across home plate, and Lowcountry Leadership sent 3 runs across home plate in the bottom of the third inning off a home run by Noah S.
The Wild Gators finished the game in the top of the fourth inning with 12 runs.
Braxton Dimery picked up the win for the Wild Gators. He pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 6 hits, walked no one, struck out 1, and allowed 3 earned runs. Luke Price pitched 0.1 inning and allowed 7 hits, walked no one, and allowed 1 earned run. Thomas Skipper pitched 1 inning and did not allow a hit, walked no one, struck out 1, and did not allow a run.
Lowcountry Leadership’s Maelee H. went 2 and 2/3 innings and allowed 9 hits, walked 3, struck out no one, and allowed 12 runs of which 4 were earned. Gabe J. pitched 0.1 inning and allowed 4 hits, walked 2, struck out no one, and allowed 6 runs of which 5 were earned. Clay S. pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 hit, walked 7, struck out 2, and allowed 6 runs of which 5 were earned.
The Lake View Wild Gators managed 14 its in the game with Noah Carter with 3 of those hits including 2 grand slam home runs and a double and picked up 9 rbi. Michael McDaniel had a home run, a double, and 3 rbi in his 3 at-bats. Thomas Skipper had a home run, a single, and 4 rbi in his 4 at-bats. Chris McGill had a home run, a single, and 1 rbi in his 3 at-bats. Luke Price had 2 singles and 3 rbi in his 3 at-bats. Luke King garnered 2 rbi in his 1 at-bat. Kason Herlong, Michael McInnis, and Tucker Bass each had a single in 2 at-bats.
Lowcountry Leadership connected for 7 hits in the game with Noah S. picking up 4 rbi on a home run and a single in his 2 at-bats. Van H. and Maelee H. each had 2 singles in 2 at-bats. Clay S. had a single in 2 at-bats.
Lowcounty Leadership committed 7 errors in the game, and Lake View did not commit an error.

lady Vikings Shut Out
The Latta Lady Vikings dropped a 5-0 decision to the visiting Andrew Jackson Volunteers of Kershaw, S.C., on Saturday, May 15, in Latta in varsity softball action.
Neither team could muster a score until the top of the fifth inning when the Volunteers place 5 runs on the scoreboard.
Skyler Huffman claimed the win. She pitched 7 innings and struck out 8, walked no one, and allowed no hits and no runs while walking 3.
Maddie Berry took the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 2, struck out 6, and allowed 5 runs of which one was earned.
Latta committed 3 errors in the game while Andrew Jackson committed only 1 error.
Latta’s Maddier Berry had a double in 2 at-bats while Jena Stutler had a double in 3 at-bats. Ragan Bethea had a single in 3 at-bats. Andrew Jackson’s Brianna Kennington, Madie Baker, and Mackenzie Marshall each had a single in 3 at-bats.

Gators Get Win
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators advanced to the next playoff game with a run-ruled, 12-0 win in 5 innings over the visiting Branchville Lady Yellow Jackets in varsity softball played in Lake View on Friday, May 14.
Branchville’s Olivia Banks led off with a single prior to Lake View’s Raven Locklear retiring the next 3 batters in a row.
Lake View wasted little time in scoring as Baxleigh Arnette led off with a fly that dropped into short center for a single. Arnette advanced to second on a fly and then took third base on a passed ball. With 2 outs, Hollie Scott connected for a single to center and advanced to second on a throw with 2 runners going home including Arnette who crossed home plate first for the only run needed for the win. Becca Cox hit one to right for a stand-up double and a rbi. After 1 inning of play, Lake View led 3-0.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear retired the Lady Yellow Jackets in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the second inning.
Zandasia McNeil hit 1 to right for a triple and once again, Baxleigh Arnette hit a grounder between first and second for a single and a rbi. Arnette stole second. Lake View’s #1 bunted safely that placed runners on the corners. Arnette scored, and Lake View’s #1 advanced to third. On a hot grounder to third by Raven Locklear, #1 scored to give Lake View a 6-0 lead.
Cheyanne Pensel garnered a walk for the Lady Yellow Jackets followed by Olivia Banks’ hit that dropped in. However, the runner was out at second on the fielder’s choice. Lake View’s defense would hold, and Branchville was retired with no runs.
Becca Cox started the bottom of the third inning arriving safely at first as the throw pulled the first baseman off the bag. Baylee Miller bunted safely to have runners on first and second. Cornelia Mace had a sac bunt to move the runners to second and third base. Zandasia McNeil had a sac fly to right to pick up a rbi. Baylee Miller scored on a passed ball. Baxleigh Arnette connected for a single over second followed by Spivey Evans’ double to left. Runners were on second and third as Lake View’s #1 hit 1 to left for a double and 2 rbi to give Lake View a 10-0 lead. Raven Locklear connected for a double to left and a rbi to up the score to 11-0 in favor of the Lake View Lady Wild Gators. On a Hollie Scott chopper to short, Raven Locklear crossed home plate for the last score of the game.

Lady Vikings Stun Lady Flashes
The Latta Lady Vikings picked up an 18-9 win over the visiting Johnsonville Lady Flashes in Latta on Thursday, May 15, in the high-scoring varsity softball game.
The two teams connected for 20 hits in the game while Johnsonville committed 8 errors and Latta committed 5 errors.
Latta scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning and added 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 5-0 before Johnsonville placed 2 runs in the top of the third and 3 runs in the top of the fourth to knot the game at 5. Latta wasted no time in placing 6 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up by 6 runs. The Lady Vikings added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead 12-5. the Lady Flashes added 4 runs in the top of the sixth inning that were answered by the Lady Vikings with 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Maddie Berry picked up the win for Latta. She pitched 3 innings and allowed 1 hit, walked 3, struck out 4, and allowed 4 runs that were not earned. Ragan Bethea started the game and pitched 3 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, struck out 2, and allowed 2 earned runs. Rylyn Marsh pitched 1 inning and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, struck out 1, and allowed 3 runs of which 1 was earned.
Wise took the loss. She pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked 3, struck out no one, and allowed 7 runs of which only 2 were earned. Mackenzie Lawrimore started the game and pitched 3.1 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked 3, struck out no one, and allowed 7 runs of which only 2 were earned.

Lady Vikings Get 18-5 Win Over Wolves
The Latta Lady Vikings returned home on Monday, May 17, with an 18-5 win over the Timberland Lady Wolves in varsity softball playoff action played at St. Stephen of the Berkeley County school district in South Carolina.
Timberland took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning that was answered by Latta with a run in the top of the second inning. Latta added 2 runs in the top of the fourth inning that was answered by a run in the bottom of the fourth inning by Timberland. Latta added another run in the top of the fifth inning to go up 4-2. However, this lead would not last long as Timberland scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
The Latta Lady Vikings took an impressive lead with 8 runs in the top of the sixth inning and held Timberland scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Vikings added 6 more runs.
Maddie Berry picked up the win for Latta. She pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 1 hit, walked no one, struck out 4, and allowed no runs. Jayla Jackson pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 7 hits, walked 1, struck out 4, and allowed 5 runs of which 4 were earned.

The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the Bamberg-Ehrhardt Red Raiders 3-0 in varsity baseball playoff action at Bamberg on Monday, May 17.
Lake View scored 2 runs in the top of the fifth inning and added a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Lake View’s Braxon Dimery had a double, a single, and 2 rbi in his 4 at-bats. Thomas Skipper had a double and a rbi in his 4 at-bats. Michael McDaniel had 3 singles in his 3 at-bats. Michael McInnis had a single in his 2 at-bats. Luke Price had a double in his 4 at-bats.
Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s Gage Boykin had 2 singles in his 3 at-bats. Chandler Brown had a single in his 2 at-bats. Treyton Still had a single in his 3 at-bats.

The Dillon Lady Wildcats suffered a 3-2 loss in the low-scoring varsity softball playoff game to the Gilbert Indians played in Gilbert, S.C., on Monday, May 17.
Dillon took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a home run by Logan Grice that drove in a run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning with the game tied at 2, Taylor Dreher hit a solo home run to take the 3-2 lead.
Amaya Kearse picked up the win for Gilbert. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 4, struck out 8, and allowed 2 earned runs.
Paige Sherman took the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, struck out 2, and allowed 3 runs that were not earned.
Dillon committed 4 errors in the game; Gilbert committed 1 error.

Gators Edge Out Wolverines
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators edged the East Clarendon Lady Wolverines 4-3 in varsity softball playoff action on Monday, May 17, in Turbeville, S.C.
The Lady Wild Gators wasted little time in placing runners on the bases. In the top of the first inning, Spivey Evans garnered a walk, and Emma King connected for a single.
The Lady Wolverines responded when Ansley Brown garnered a walk. Brown advanced to second on a passed ball and then advanced to third on a passed ball. However, the side was retired without a score.
It was 3 up and 3 down for the Lady Wild Gators in the top of the second inning.
Hayden White connected for a lead-off single to right to begin the bottom of the second inning for the Lady Wolverines. Nothing was to come of this; the side was retired.
Spivey Evans reached first as the ball was dropped on the tag. Evans stole second. Emma King hit one by the shortstop, and Evans scored the first run of the game to give Lake View a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Wolverines were retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the third inning.
After a lead-off single by Hollie Scott, Lake View could not advance her and the top of the third inning ended.
The score remained this way until the bottom of the fifth inning when Katie Lee it one to right for a lead-off single. The Lady Wolverines’ #1 sac bunted to advance the runner to second. With 2 outs, Ansley Brown garnered a walk to place runners on first and second. Hope Azurdia garnered a walk to load the bases. Elizabeth Fleming hit a blooper over first for a single and 2 rbi to give East Clarendon the first lead of the game, 2-1.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear knotted the score at 2 in the top of the sixth inning with a home run!
East Clarendon’s Katie Lee hit a grounder to right for a single followed by #1’s sac bunt to advance the runner to second. Charlie Floyd hit one deep to center to score the run and give East Clarendon a 3-2 lead going into the last inning.
Lake View’s Cornelia Mace garnered a lead-off walk in the top of the seventh inning followed by Zandasia McNeil who bunted safely to give Lake View runners on first and second with no outs. Spivey Evans hit one between center and right for a double and 2 rbi to give Lake View a 4-3 lead.
East Clarendon was retired 3 up and 3 down in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Gators Hand Loss To Raiders
The Lake View Wild Gators handed the visiting Bamberg-Ehrhardt Raiders a 6-4 loss in Lake View on Friday, May 21, in varsity baseball playoff action to advance to next week’s Lower State Championship playoffs.
Lake View jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Bamberg-Ehrhardt placed a run on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to only 1 run, 2-1,
The Raiders added 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Lake View responded in the bottom of the sixth inning with 4 scores to lead the game 6-4. The Wild Gators hung on to pick up the win.
Braxton Dimery picked up the win for Lake View. He pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits, walked 3, struck out 8, and allowed 4 runs that were not earned.
Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s Weston Stokes started on the mound and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and allowed 2 earned runs. Treyton Still pitched 5 innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 3, struck out 7, and allowed 4 earned runs. Gage Boykin took the loss. He pitched an inning and walked 1, did not strike out anyone, and did not allowed any runs.
Lake View’s Chris McGill picked up 2 rbi in his 2 at-bats while Braxton Dimery had 2 singles in 3 at-bats. Noah Carter had a single and a rbi in 3 at-bats while Kason Herlong had a single in 3 at-bats. Michael McInnis had a rbi in his 2 at-bats, and Michael McDaniel had a rbi in his 3 at-bats. Latta Edges Out Buford
The Latta Vikings edged the Buford Yellowjackets of Lancaster, S.C. 6-5 in extra inning in varsity baseball action played in Latta on Thursday, May 20, with a good crowd in attendance.
The Latta Vikings took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Andrew Bryant hit a high fly to right that was dropped to arrive at first. Bryant advanced to second on a passed ball. Gatlin Johnson walked. Latta’s #4 hit a grounder by third that got a bad hop, and the bases were loaded. Justin Stutler hit one up the middle for a single and 2 rbi that left runners on the corners. Cole Gasque hit a grounder to third, and the runner was out at second. Ethan Lee hit one to left for a single and a rbi. Parker McCormick garnered a walk. Dylan Shelley hit a grounder to the pitcher who threw to home for the out on the force play. A throw from the catcher went wide, and a run scored. Preston Tyler garnered a walk to load the bases. The final out of the inning was made on a grounder to short.
Neither team could score again until the top of the fifth inning when Buford tied the game at 5. Buford’s Logan Whitaker hit one up the middle for a lead-off single. Josh Lilly hit a grounder to short but the runner at second was safe due to a throwing error. Eli Sistare bunted safely to load the bases with no outs. Tyler Vespe was hit by a pitch, and the first run crossed home plate. Landon Deese hit one to short right for a single and a rbi. Latta’s #4 came into the game a relief pitcher. Jarrett Laney hit a grounder to short and the runner was thrown out at second plus the runner at first was out due to interference from the runner heading to second. Austin Blackman hit one to deep left and arrived at second with the fourth run of the inning crossing home plate. Noah Rabon hit one to left for a single and rbi that knotted the score at 5.
With the score knotted at 5, Buford inserted Tanner Sellers as the relief pitcher. Latta’s Andrew Bryant hit one to deep center for a lead-off triple. The Buford coach elected to intentionally walk the next two batters to load the bases, a strategy that would pay off. Justin Stutler was retired when he struck out watching. Cole Gasque popped up to third for out 2. Ethan Lee was out 3…and the game would go to an extra inning.
The Buford Yellowjackets were retired 3 up, 3 down in the top of the eighth inning.
Parker McCormick led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a hit to right for a single. Dylan Shelley connected for a single over second. Buford inserted Eli Sistare as the new pitcher. Preston Tyler hit one to right, and Latta scored to win the game 6-5.

Vikings Defeat Iron Horses
The Latta Vikings defeated the Philip Simmons Iron Horses 6-3 in varsity baseball action played in Charleston on Friday, May 21.
Latta scored a run in the top of the first inning when Preston Tyler doubled. Latta also added a run in the top of the second inning.
Philip Simmons tied the game in the bottom of the second inning aided by an error.
Latta added 2 runs in the top of the third inning to have a 4-2 lead on a double by Dylan Shelley that scored 2 runs. The Vikings added another run in the top of the fifth inning that was answered by a run by Philip Simmons in the bottom of the fifth inning. Latta’s last score of the game came in the top of the sixth inning with 1 run.
Christian Brigman picked up the win. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked 2, struck out 7, and allowed 3 runs of which 1 was earned. Gatlin Johnson pitched 1 inning in relief. He allowed 1 hit, walked no one, and allowed no runs.
Ty Peterson took the loss for Philip Simmons. he pitched 3.2 innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 3, struck out 1, and allowed 4 earned runs. Collin Clifford pitched 1.2 innings and allowed 6 hits, walked 2, and allowed 2 earned runs.

The Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated the visiting Oceanside Collegiate Academy 14-4 in the run-ruled shortened 5-inning game in Dillon in round 3 of the varsity softball playoffs held in Dillon on Wednesday, May 19.
Dillon’s Paige Sherman retired the Lady Landsharks 3 up and 3 down in the top of the first inning.
Dillon’s Qy Wilson was hit by a pitch to arrive at first base. She quickly stole second base. Abby Bristow hit one to righ, and Qy Wilson scored to give Dillon an early 1-0 lead.
However, in the top of the second inning, Malaka Belser was hit by a pitch. Anna Amell hit one to left for a single. Runners were on first and second. Izzy Clark sac bunted, and Malaka Belser arrived safely at home to knot the score at 1.
Dillon responded with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to go up 3 runs.
In the top of the third, the Lady Landsharks added 2 runs to cut the lead to 4-3.
However, in the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Wildcats placed 5 runs on the scoreboard.
In the top of the fifth inning, Oceanside Collegiate Academy added a run that was answered by Dillon High with 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Paige Sherman picked up the win. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 hits, struck out 6, walked no one, and allowed 4 runs of which 3 were earned.
Zada Morgan was tagged with the loss. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 9 hits, walked 5, struck out 1, and allowed 14 runs of which 9 were earned.
Dillon’s Chesney Caddell had a double, a single and a rbi in 3 at-bats while Jenascia Lester had a triple, a single, and a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Qy Wilson had a triple and 3 rbi in her 2 at-bats. Lexie Rogers had a double and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats.
Cierra Grice had a single and 2 rbi in her 2 at-bats. Abby Bristow picked up a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Logan Grice had 2 singles in her 3 at-bats.
Oceanside’s Kennedy Rhue had a double and 2 rbi in her 3 at-bats. Malaka Belser had a single and a rbi n her 1 at-bat. Izzy Clark picked up a rbi in 2 plate appearances. Adi Moon had a single in 2 at-bats while Zada Morgan had a single in 3 at-bats.
Dillon’s Abby Bristow stole 2 bases in the game as well as other Dillon players managed to steal bases. Each team committed an error in the game.

Lady Gators Get By Wolverines
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators edged the East Clarendon Lady Wolverines 4-3 in varsity softball action played in Lake View on Friday, May 21, before a large crowd of spectators.
After a scoreless first inning, Lake View placed a run on the scoreboard to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Hollie Scott connected for a stand-up double to left to start the ball rolling. Becca Cox hit a grounder to second and arrived safely at first due to a throwing error, and Scott scored.
The Lady Wolverines got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning with a run to knot the score at 1 that was answered by Lake View in the bottom of the sixth inning on a home run to take a 2-1 lead.
East Clarendon placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning to take a 3-2 lead. However, Baxleigh Arnette and Raven Locklear each had a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim the 4-3 win to advance to the Lower State Championship games to be played next week.
Lake View’s Hollie Scott had a double, a single, and a rbi in 4 at-bats while Baxleigh Arnette had a home run, a single, and a rbi in 4 at-bats. Raven Locklear added a home run and a rbi in her 3 at-bats. Baylee Miller had 2 hits in 3 at-bats while Spivey Evans had 2 hits in 4 at-bats. Emma King had a hit in 3 at-bats.
Raven Locklear picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 2, struck out 4, and allowed 3 runs of which 1 was earned.
Maddie Newsome was tagged with the loss. She pitched 7 innings and struck out 8, walked 1, allowed 12 hits, and 4 earned runs.

Lady Vikings Shut Out Barnwell
The Latta Lady Vikings shut-out the visiting Barnwell Lady Warhorses 10-0 in the run-ruled, 5-inning varsity softball game played in Latta on Wednesday, May 19.
Latta took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and added a run in the bottom of the third inning, 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jayla Jackson picked up the win. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, struck out 3, and allowed no runs.
Maddie Hutto took the loss. She pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 9 hits, walked 4, struck out 2, and allowed 10 runs of which 8 were earned.
Barnwell committed 3 errors in the game while Latta committed 1 error.
Latta’ Abigail Cooper had a double, 2 singles, and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Jena Stutler had a double, a single, and 2 rbi in her 3 at-bats. Ragan Bethea had a double in her 2 at-bats. Averi Lovell had a single in her 3 at-bats. Blake Hatchell had a single in her 2 at-bats, and Jayla Jackson had a single in her 3 at-bats.

Lady Wildcats Edge Out Gilbert
The Dillon Lady Wildcats edged the Gilbert Lady Indians 9-8 in the second game of the double-header played on Friday, May 21, in varsity softball playoff action played in Gilbert.
Both teams displayed their offensive power with Dillon getting 9 hits and Gilbert getting 8 hits in this action-packed thriller.
Dillon drew first blood in the top of the first inning when Logan Grice hit a sac fly to score the first run of the game. However, Gilbert responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Dillon’s bats came alive again in the top of the third inning while placing 5 runs onto the scoreboard. Ny Wilson drove in the first run. Paige Sherman hit into a fielder’s choice. An error scored a run. Cierra Grice connected for a triple, and 2 runs scored.
Dillon added a run in the top of the fourth inning and 2 more runs in the top of the sixth inning before Gilbert responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with Taylor Dreher and Ayden Leaphart connecting for home runs. Dreher also had a home run in the bottom of the first inning. Gilbert also added 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Paige Sherman picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 9 hits, walked 1, struck out 9, and allowed 8 runs of which 5 were earned.
Amaya Kearse pitched 6.2 innings and was charged with the loss. She allowed 6 hits, walked 6, struck out 4, and allowed 8 runs of which 3 were earned.
Dillon’s Logan Grice had a double, a single and 4 rbi in her 2 at-bats. Cierra Grice had a triple, 2 singles, and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Ny Wilson had a single and a rbi in her 4-at-bats. Paige Sherman picked up a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Qy Wilson had 2 singles in her 4 at-bats.
Gilbert’s Taylor Dreher had 2 home runs and 4 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Ayden Leaphart had a home run and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Amaya Kearse had a single and a rbi in her 4 at-bats. Tara Dorgan, Abbie Marlowe, and Aubrey Stalvey each had a single in 3 at-bats. Leah Kearse and Taylor Branham each had a single in 4 at-bats.

Lady Cats Defeat Indians
The Dillon Lady Wildcats’ Paige Sherman threw a 3-0 shut-out against the Gilbert Lady Indians on Friday, May 21, in the first varsity game of the double-header played in Gilbert to force a second game.
Although Gilbert managed 3 hits, Dillon picked up the win with only 1 hit by Jenascia Lester. Ny Wilson picked up a rbi in her 2 at-bats.
Dillon placed 3 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning.
Gilbert’s Ayden Leaphart, Leah Kearse, Abbie Marlowe, and Taylor Dreher each singled in 3 at-bats.
Paige Sherman pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked no one, struck out 6, and allowed no runs.
Amaya Kearse was tagged with the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 1 hit, walked 5, struck out 5, and allowed 3 earned runs.

Lady Volunteers End Latta’s Season
The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers defeated the visiting Latta Lady Vikings 9-3 in varsity softball playoff action played in Kershaw on Friday, May 21.
Although the Lady Vikings scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning, it was not enough to contain the scoring of the Lady Volunteers who placed 4 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. Latta would not hold the lead again in this game.
The Lady Volunteers added 3 runs in the bottom of the second inning, 1 run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Latta managed to score a run in the top of the sixth inning.
Skylar Huffman picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits, walked 1, struck out 4, and allowed 3 runs of which 2 were earned.
Maddie Berry took the loss. She pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked 1, struck out 4, and allowed 5 runs of which 3 were earned. Jayla Jackson started the game. She pitched one-third of an inning and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, struck out 1, and allowed 4 runs of which none were earned.

Tyler Pitches No-Hitter
Preston Tyler pitched a no-hitter as the Latta Vikings handed the visiting Philip Simmons Iron Horses a 6-0 loss in Latta in varsity baseball playoff action on Tuesday, May 25.
Latta got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the first inning when Ethan Lane hit one that was deflected by the pitcher, Parker McCormick garnered a walk, both runners advanced on a passed ball, Dylan Shelley garnered a walk, and Ethan Lee scored on a passed ball. This would be all the scoring needed for the win. However, Latta was not content and continued to work to produce runs.
In the bottom of the third inning, Preston Tyler lined one to right for a single, Andrew Bryant followed with a single to center, Gatlin Johnson had a sac bunt, and Collin Minshew had a sac fly to left.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Dylan Shelley and Preston Tyler sent runners home for scores. Latta managed to pick up 3 runs.
Latta placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning as Parker McCormick garnered a walk and advanced to second on an attempted pick-off at first and advanced to third on Dylan Shelley’s grounder to second. Preston Tyler walked. Parker McCormick scored on a passed ball.
Preston Tyler picked up the win. He pitched 7 innings and struck out 3, walked 3, and did not allow any runs.
Ty Peterson was tagged with the loss. He pitched 4 innings and allowed 5 hits, walked 5, struck out 3, and allowed 5 runs of which 3 were earned. Collin Clifford pitched the final 2 innings. he allowed no hits, walked 2, struck out 2 and allowed an unearned run.

Lady Gators Defeat Lady Warriors
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators suffered a 9-8 loss to Bamberg-Ehrhardt Lady Warriors in extra innings varsity softball played in Lake View on Monday, May 24.
The Bamberg-Ehrhardt Lady Warriors drew first blood by placing a run on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning on a error, a steal, and a hit by Reagan Johnson.
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators responded with a run in the bottom of the third to knot the score at 1 on a lead-off single by Zandasia McNeil and a triple by Baxleigh Arnette.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lake View left the bases loaded without a score.
In the top of the fifth, Elaney Sanders had a lead-off single followed by a single by Amanda Ahlin. Both runners advanced a base on the throw to the base. Riley Johnson bunted and the runners score to give the Lady Warriors a 3-1 lead. Jakiah Wilson hit a grounder to second and a run scored to allow Bamberg-Ehrhardt to go up 4-1.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 2, 4-2.
Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s Reagan Johnson hit one by third for a single followed by Abby Williams who arrived safely on a error on a bunt. Elaney Sanders hit one to center for a double and a rbi to give the Lady Warriors a 5-2 lead after 5 and 1/2 innings of play.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Baylee Miller hit one to center and arrived at second on an error and advanced to third. Cornelia Mace bunted safely followed by Zandasia McNeil who also arrived safely on a bunt to load the bases. Baxleigh Arnette hit one to left for a double and 3 rbi to knot the score at 5 each. Spivey Evans bunted and arrived at first on a catching error and a run scored to give Lake View a 6-5 lead. Emma King garnered a walk. Runners were on first and second with no outs. Raven Locklear hit a hot grounder up the middle and the runner was out at second. With base runners on the corners, the runner advanced to second. Hollie Scott hit one over third for a single and a rbi. Becca Cox hit a grounder to short and was out at first but a run scored to allow Lake View to go up 8-5 after 6 innings of play.
Bamberg-Ehrhardt wasted little time in scoring in the top of the seventh inning on a lead-off single by Jakiah Wilson, an error on a grounder by Mikayla Hallman, and an error on a chopper by Wallis Rutland to score a run. Reagan Johnson hit one to center for a double and knotted the score at 8.
Lake View was unable to muster a score, and the game would go to an extra inning.
Neither team was able to get a run across home plate in the eighth inning.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Lady Warriors managed to score a run and was successful in preventing the Lake View Wild Gators from scoring in the bottom of the ninth inning to claim the 9-8 win in the first game of the Lower State Championship.

Wildcats Defeat Blue Jackets
The Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated the Aynor Lady Blue Jackets 11-3 in Aynor on Monday, May 24, in game 1 of the Lower State Championship in varsity AAA softball.
Dillon took an early 4-0 lead after the first inning when Lexie Rogers singled and picked up 2 rbi.
Aynor responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning and 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to 1 run.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Wildcats added 3 runs to increase the lead to 4, 7-3.
In the top of the seventh inning, Paige Sherman, Jenascia Lester, Cierra Grive, and Qy Wilson all picked up rbis. Paige Sherman picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 5 hits, walked 1, struck out 2, and allowed 3 runs of which 1 was earned.
Kennedy Ellis was tagged with the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 10 hits, walked 6, struck out 9, and allowed 11 runs of which 7 were earned.
The Lady Wildcats stole 5 bases during the game.
