PHOTO GALLERY: Dillon Lady Wildcats Win Lower State Title

The Dillon Lady Wildcats won the AAA Lower State Championship 6-2 over the visiting Aynor Lady Blue Jackets on Wednesday, May 26, in Dillon before a large crowd.

The Dillon Lady Wildcats won the AAA Lower State Championship 6-2 over the visiting Aynor Lady Blue Jackets on Wednesday, May 26, in Dillon before a large crowd.
Excitement filled the air prior and during the game as the Lady Wildcats not only won the AAA Lower State Softball Championship, but the seniors would also be able to attend Prom night on Friday, May 28.
The bats were quiet for the first 2 and 1/2 innings. However, the fans were not!
Dillon placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning to go up 2-0. Jenascia Lester bunted safely to get the ball rolling and advanced to third on a passed ball. Cierra Grice followed with a bunt of her own. Runners were now on the corners. Grice quickly advance to second as she stole the base. Qy Wilson hit a sac fly to right and Lester crossed home plate for the first run of the game. Grice advanced to third. Grice quickly crossed home plate on a passed ball.
Aynor’s Ray hit a grounder to third and arrived safely at first on a throwing error and advanced to second on the throw. Riley Rabon hit a grounder up the middle and picked up a rbi to cut Dillon’s lead to 1 run.
Dillon’s Qy Wilson hit a grounder to third and arrived safely to first on a throwing error. Abby Bristow hit one to left for a single. With 2 outs and runners on first and second, Logan Grice connected for a triple to deep center and 2 rbi to give Dillon a 4-1 lead. Lexie Rogers hit one to left for a double and a rbi. Ny Wilson hit one up the middle for a single and a rbi. Dillon’s lead was now 6-1 after 5 innings of play.
In the top of the seventh inning, Aynor’s Ray hit one over the left fielder’s head to arrive safely followed by Brown’s hit to center for a single and a rbi to cut Dillon’s lead to 4, 6-2.
Paige Sherman picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 7 hits, walked no one, struck out 1, and allowed 2 runs of which 1 was earned.
Kennedy Ellis took the loss for Aynor. She pitched 6 innings and allowed 6 hits, walked 2, and allowed 6 runs of which only 1 was earned.
Dillon’s Lexie Rogers had a double, a single, and a rbi in her 3 at-bats. Logan Grice had a triple and 2 rbi in her 3 at-bats. Ny Wilson had a single and a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Qy Wilson picked up a rbi in her 1 at-bat. Cierra Grice and Abby Bristow each had a single in 3 at-bats.
Aynor’s Riley Rabon had 2 singles and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Brown had a single and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Ray, Peyton Rabon, and Ryann Ellis each had a double in 3 at-bats. Sarvis had a single in 3 at-bats.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats turned 3 double plays in the game.
Each team committed 2 errors in the game.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats are coached by Head Coach Stevie Grice and assistant coaches Norman Quick and Twin Lester.
