Dillon County Predators Win National Championship

By Dawnyelle Livingston
On March 14, 2021, the Dillon County Predators became the 2021 Offence-Defense National Champions.
The team traveled to Nashville Tennessee and played in a tournament held at the Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans.

The Predators are composed of twenty nine young men and one young lady hailing from Dillon, Marion, Florence, Myrtle Beach and Columbia.
Staff members are KG Locklear, Geoffrey George, Twin Lester, Eugene McLellan, and Anthony Lester.
The Dillon County Predators were founded by Kevin (KG) Locklear in 2019. Before that time, the team was known as the Pee Dee Predators. KG has been involved with young people since 2015.
He sponsored several events to supply kids with the necessities for school including clothes. He was coaching with the Recreation Center and travel football.

Mr. Locklear made the decision to come to SCAAU in Dillon and found tremendous support. The County and City Boards, parents, local coaches, Director of the Recreational Center and the community itself have all been a source of support and inspiration for the team. Mr. Geoffrey George joined the program and became the Head Coach. Geoffrey has over 15 years coaching experience.
KG states that he never thought the team would be out of state playing on the field of the Tennessee Titans. He was more excited for the group helping out. He knows the amount of work they put in to get there. It is something that he says he will carry forever. The team had the opportunity to travel to another part of the country. KG said the joy of the players expressing their appreciation was more valuable to him than the trophy and rings. He has been a mentor and father figure for the youth. Tough subjects such as bullying and peer pressure are addressed with the team. Running Back, Sirmod McCallum, stated that the coaches are strict about grades and discipline. He further said that the coaches want them to be positive young people. Coach George said the involvement goes beyond football.
There is a strong bond among the team and coaches. Phone calls are made to keep in touch even in the off season. Grades are checked and KG continually encourages the kids to build good character. The team is involved in community service to teach them to give back for the support they’ve received over the years. Coach George says he is thankful for the support, sacrifices and overall he is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the program. The Dillon County Predators are just getting started. KG has an extraordinary vision for the team. It is his desire that sharing his passion for mentoring through sports establishes a legacy for all involved. Practice for the upcoming season will begin in May 2021.
