Basketball Round-up: 1/29/2020

LATTA VIKINGS
The Latta Vikings boys dropped a close physical basketball game 73-66 Friday, January 22, at home against the visiting Cheraw Braves varsity team.
Latta held a slim 1-point, 16-15, lead after the first quarter of play. As the first half was ending, Cheraw managed to pull away slightly and have a 5-point lead, 35-30, at halftime. The third period of play was once again a close battle as Latta edged Cheraw by 1 point, 23-22, in that period. Both teams continued to battle in the final period. But, in the end, the Braves were the victors.
In this battle, Latta committed 9 fouls in the first half while Cheraw committed 5 fouls. In the final half, Latta was guilty of 7 fouls, and Cheraw was guilty of 9 fouls.
Latta’s Trevon Miles led his team in scoring with 20 points of which he sank seven 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 3 free throws. Tydreck DeBerry scored 12 points on two 3-point baskets and three 2-point baskets. Jamario Taylor had 9 points on a 3-point basket, two 2-point baskets, and 2 free throws. James Jones added two 3-point baskets and 2 free throws for 8 points. Andrew Bryant connected on two 2-point baskets and 3 free throws for 7 points. Alex Strickland had a 2-point basket, and Kwame Hennegan sank 2 free throws while Laterrian Israel connected on a free throw.
Cheraw’s Jonathan Gordon led all scorers with 25 points. He connected on twelve 2-point baskets and a free throw. Marshall Myers added 16 points on two 3-point baskets, three 2-point baskets, and 4 free throws. Devin Gillesie garnered 10 points on four 2-point baskets and 2 free throws. Zay Brown sank three 2-point baskets. Jadan Scott connected on a 3-point basket and 2 free throws to place 5 points on the scoreboard. Cale Burch had two 2-point baskets. Braylon Malachi, Caden Cauthen, and Nazae Williams each sank a 2-point basket while Aaron Jackson sank a free throw.

LADY GATORS
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators handed the visiting Johnsonville Lady Flashes a 46-27 loss in Lake View on Tuesday, January 26.
Lake View jumped out to an 11-point, 16-5, lead after the first period of basketball action. By halftime, the Lady Wild Gators held a commanding 36-9 lead. After 3 periods of play, Lake View was up 42-21.
Lake View’s Ja’Niyah Waters placed 17 points onto the scoreboard to lead everyone in the scoring department.
She six 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 4 free throws. Jaleya Ford added 10 points on three 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and a free throw. Zan’Dasia McNeil connected for 8 points on three 2-point baskets and 2 free throws. Sa’Nyah Williams and two 2-point baskets for 4 points. Gwendasia Page connected on a 2-point shot and a free throw for 3 points while Tianna Hamilton and Cornelia Mace each sank a 2-point basket.
The Lady Flashes were led by Terionna N. with 7 points on three 2-point baskets and a free throw. Brook Eaddy had a 3-point shot and a 2-point shot for 5 points. Kiara Wright and Nyasia Graham each placed 4 points onto the scoreboard by sinking two 2-point baskets. Miasia Hamilton garnered a 2-point basket.
Johnsonville committed 4 fouls in the first half and 8 fouls in the second half while Lake View was guilty of only 2 fouls in the first half and a few in the second half.

LV GATORS
The Johnsonville Flashes varsity basketball team returned home on Tuesday, January 26, with a 60-44 win over the Lake View Wild Gators played in Lake View.
The Flashes jumped out to a 19-9 lead after the first period of play of which the Wild Gators were not able to cut into the lead. By halftime, Lake View was down 33-15. After 3 periods of play, Johnsonville was up 44-33.
Johnsonville’s Q. Lewis led all scorers with 20 points. He connected on seven 2-point baskets and two 3-point baskets. J. Avant contributed 14 points on three 3-point baskets, two 2-point baskets, and a free throw. J. Williams added 7 points by hitting a 3-point basket and two-2-point baskets. W. Gamble had two 2-point baskets and 2 free throws for 6 points. T. Wilson garnered 4 points on two-2-point baskets. T. Timmons, E. Cooper, and W. Smith each sank a 2-point basket. Shaheed Dawkins led the Wild Gators with five 2-point baskets and a free throw for 11 points wile Michael McInnis added 8 points on a 3-point basket and two 2-point baskets. Marquise Johnson added 7 points on three 2-point baskets and a free throw.
D. J. Bethea garnered 6 points on three 2-point baskets. Garrett Vaught added 6 points on a 3-point basket and 3 free throws.
Raejon Rogers had a 3-point basket and a 2-point basket for 5 points. Raekwon McNeil sank 2 free throws.
Lake View committed 6 fouls in the first half and 9 fouls in the second half while Johnsonville committed 7 fouls in the first half and 8 fouls in the second half.
