Felder Is New Executive Director Of Palmetto State School Counselor Association

LaWanda R. Felder is the new Executive Director of Palmetto State School Counselor Association (PSSCA).

She has been very involved with the governing board of Palmetto State School Counselor Association for over 13 years serving as President, President-Elect, Conference Chair, Treasurer and many other capacities. She loves serving the school counselor association and hope to meet and work with all the school counselors in South Carolina. She reminds others that, “children don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.
Dr. Felder is a Professional School Counselor at Cross Elementary School in Berkeley County, embarking on her 25th year, all of which has been at Cross Elementary School. She is also an adjunct professor at South Carolina State University. In her years as a School Counselor, she has seen a lot of changes and growth in her district and the school counseling profession. This current pandemic has brought about some changes that she has never witnessed before; therefore, as a Professional School Counselor she had to make some adjustments to become a better servant. Although she has faced obstacles, there has been some insurmountable life lessons and learning, she terms “growing pains”! She is rooted in staying green and growing, because when you refuse to grow, you begin to die.
Dr. Felder is an avid walker and stays active in her hometown of Eutawville, SC. She walks 3-4 miles every morning before work and some evenings as well. She is a licensed Zumba instructor and hosts a class twice a week in the evenings. She loves directing weddings, hosting receptions, parties, showers, etc. and she love dancing, especially line dancing.
Dr. Felder earned her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University in Sarasota, FL, Master’s Degree in School Counseling from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC and Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. She is the daughter of John Felder of Spartanburg, SC and the late Mary Washington-James. She is the goddaughter of Mary Ella Manning of Dillon, SC.
