Kelli Floyd, 10th grade English teacher at Lake View High School, was named the district’s 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year at the annual ceremony held on Monday, September 21, 2020. Ms. Floyd and seven colleagues received recognition for their dedication to the students in Dillon School District Four.

Teachers, administrators, and board members gathered in the foyer of the auditorium located at 1738 Highway 301 North at 6:00 P.M. After a brief social time, principals and teachers joined board members in the district training room. Board chairman, Earl Gleason, Jr., opened the recognition ceremony by welcoming all in attendance and thanking the teachers present. He introduced school principals. Each came to the podium and recognized their school representatives by sharing personal attributes and professional accomplishments that related to this honor. Each 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year school representative received an engraved gift from the Board of Trustees.
After each school administrator recognized his/her teacher, Mr. Gleason announced the recipient of the 2020-2021 District Teacher of the Year. Ms. Kelli Floyd received a monetary award and an engraved watch denoting this special honor. During her introduction, Edison Arnette, principal at Lake View high School, shared accolades related to Ms. Floyd’s teaching abilities and her dedication to her students. He stated that Ms. Floyd works hard to establish one-to-one relationships with her students and colleagues. Two of her personal strengths relate to creativity and innovation. She strives to make a positive impact on all those she encounters daily.
At the end of the ceremony, guests were treated to a delicious take-out meal. Recipients also received a pack of ginger ale, compliments of Blenheim Bottling, Co. One additional sercy will be presented in the fall. Mr. David Stanley, Horace Mann representative, will visit each school and present a monetary award to the teachers in recognition of their hard work.
As the district’s representative, Ms. Floyd will be invited to attend professional development trainings especially designed for district honorees and she will have the opportunity to participate in the 2022 State Teacher of the Year competition.
Her application will be submitted to the South Carolina Department of Education in January. In the spring,

Ms. Floyd will be invited to attend the statewide Teacher of the Year celebration. During the event, State Superintendent of Education, Molly Spearman, will announce the 2022 State Teacher of the Year.
School representatives recognized included: Jasmine Hamilton, teacher at East Elementary; Philip Herring, teacher at South Elementary; Alison Huggins, teacher at Stewart Heights Elementary; Leanna Ward, teacher at Lake View Elementary; Joseph Hedgepeth, teacher at Gordon Elementary; Kevin McLellan, teacher at Dillon Middle School; Paula Stranahan, teacher at Dillon High School, and Kelli Floyd, teacher at Lake View High School.
