To The Editor:
In this political season everyone is talking or giving their opinion on who should be the new sheriff of Dillon County. Whoever becomes the sheriff will also have to take an oath to abide by the same laws as we the people. In society today everyone seems to want to break, bend, or be excused from the law; some think they are totally exempt from it. I’m a Dillon County citizen who is proud of our law enforcement providers, city and county. I’ve owned a business in Dillon County for thirty-three years…they have never failed to respond when called on; but, it would be foolish for me to say we have a perfect police force here. We are all imperfect because we are human. We are going to make mistakes, it’s our nature; but, we must give an account for them. The mistake I speak of here does not break or bend the law but it does disrespect we the people.
Carley Wiggins passed away July 10, 2020. Funeral services were Monday, July 13th. Carley was my friend and a forty-six year employee at Herald Office Solutions…they found him to be loyal, trustworthy, and dedicated.
These traits are hard to find in today’s workplace. He also had a dedicated wife who supported him in every facet of his life.
Now, for the disrespect shown…Upon leaving Little Rock Baptist Church to Greenlawn Cemetery there was no escort provided for the funeral procession; nor were there officers at highway intersections.
My question is why?…My friend deserved better.
