PDRTA Seeking Input On Public Bus Service In Dillon County

The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority is seeking input on how public bus service will be planned in Dillon County.
Comments must be received by August 7th.
Late last year, the Dillon County Council committed to assisting the bus service along with various other stakeholders.

The idea is to implement a transportation system for people in Dillon County not only to go to work, but for public use. It would provide citizens transportation to doctor’s offices, retail stores, government buildings, and all of the major industries.
All of the counties in the region have the PDRTA service except Dillon County, and this is seen not only as a step to improve the quality of life of the citizens, but to help further economic development in the county by being able to get workers to work.
Dillon County Council Vice-Chairman T.F. “Buzzy” Finklea, Jr., who has been a supporter of bringing the PDRTA service to the county, said there are so many people in Dillon County who don’t have transportation, and those with transportation often don’t realize the plight of those who don’t He said he had someone tell him that some private individuals in Latta charge $25 to take people to the doctor in Dillon, work, etc. He said if it is that much in Latta how much is in Lake View.
Finklea said he knew another man who said that he had a driver that drove five people to work including him, but when the driver was sick, they didn’t have a ride so five people miss work on those days not just one.
Finklea said PDRTA will better the lives of those who are less fortunate, senior citizens who don’t want to drive or who can no longer drive, and many others.
Finklea said PDRTA bus service will benefit people all over the county.
The service is expected to begin shortly in the county.
