Latta Police Department Has New Addition

By Betsy Finklea
The Latta Police Department has a new addition.
Chase, a full-blooded bloodhound, was acquired through a donation from a local breeder in mid-June. He lives with his handler, Lt. Josh Holt.

Holt said that Chase’s main job will be tracking and trailing suspects on the run, missing or lost people, etc.
Holt said that they will be training Chase themselves with the help of handlers in Marion and Florence counties. Later, they hope to atend an upstate seminar to receive more training.
Since Chase is a puppy, he is learning what to do, and Holt is working with him on how to trail and track.
Once Chase is up to speed, he will be available to any agency who needs assistance such as other police departments, the Sheriff’s Office, the Coroner’s Office, the rescue squads, etc., Holt said.
Latta residents will be seeing Chase around town and are invited to come up and meet him.
