Senate Report: Take COVID-19 Seriously

By Sen. Kent Williams
I humbly implore each and every one of you to take COVID-19 seriously. Do not underestimate the impact that it can have on the lives of our vulnerable friends and family. If we adhere to all of the warnings and advisories we will weather yet another storm.
Social distancing practices are implemented by public health officials to keep contagious diseases from spreading. The measures are aimed at trying to cut down the amount of virus spreading around, and ultimately protect those most susceptible, including the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
This is an invisible threat. Many do not realize that they have been infected and are potentially spreading the virus. I cannot stress enough the importance of our community sheltering at home at this time, please try to keep home until the public health agencies deem the risk has decreased. However, do not forget to check in on your neighbors, friends and elderly relatives. We can still be present for each other.
I would be remiss if I did not extend a heartfelt thank you to all those on the frontlines during this pandemic. I want to personally thank each and every one of you who have been working long hard hours ensuring that we are healthy, safe and have supplies. Although, a simple thank you does not even begin to express how grateful I am for what you are doing for us.
I also want to share a great source on COVID-19 resources and responses which can be found at https://www.scjustice.org/covid19/. This site has compiled resources for small businesses, food banks and much more.
I know that a lot of people are scared right now. And it’s a scary time, but we are resilient and we will come out of this pandemic stronger.
