District Four Participating In In-Home Kindergarten Readiness Program

Dillon School District Four is pleased to announce that the students enrolled in the 4K CERDEP classrooms have the opportunity to participate in an in-home kindergarten readiness program sponsored by the SC Department of Education.

This program provides a computer and software to all eligible families. The goal of the program is to increase the students’ literacy skills, which will help them score “ready” for kindergarten in the fall of 2020.
Parent orientation events were held September 18-20, 2019 at the four primary schools in Dillon School District Four: East, South, Stewart Heights, and Lake View Elementary. Teachers, assistants, literacy coaches and principals assisted parents and students during the events. Parents attended informational training sessions and students participated in pre-assessment surveys.

Each parent will be partnered with a Waterford UPSTART Family Education Liaison who will answer questions, encourage participation, and monitor progress and usage throughout the year.
To reap the benefits of this research-based program, parents are asked to work with their child a minimum of twenty (20) minutes per day, five (5) days a week. This program, approved by superintendent, D. Ray Rogers, is a wonderful way to engage parents in their child’s education.
Mr. Rogers, teachers and coaches were pleased with the parent turnout last week. One hundred six (106) parents and/or guardians attended the scheduled training sessions.
The fourteen (14) parents that were unable to attend will be contacted to come to their child’s school to pick up their computer.
All one hundred twenty (120) eligible CERDEP students will have this opportunity.
