PHOTO GALLERY: Latta Gets Win Over East Clarendon

The Latta Vikings amassed yardage and points on their way to a 32-7 win over the East Clarendon Wolverines in varsity football action played in Latta on Friday, October 5.
After forcing the Wolverines to punt on their first series of plays, Brewer picked up good yardage on the first play from offense and then carried 3 more times to help set up the first score, a 4-yard pass from quarterback Dylan Brewer to Deonte Stanley with 6:20 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT by Kavi Patel was good. Latta led 7-0.
The Wolverines’ Marquis Webb managed to pick up some yardage against the Latta defense on the next series of plays before once again punting.
Latta’s quarterback Brewer tossed one to J R McClam who raced down the sideline for a 59-yard touchdown with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter to put Latta up by 13 points. The PAT was no good.
East Clarendon’s workhorse for the evening was Marquis Webb who carried several times. However, East Clarendon was once again forced to punt.
Latta’s Darius McRae picked up 6 yards on the first play of offense for him as quarterback. On this series of plays, Latta’s Deonte Stanley punted.
Once again, Marquis Webb carried the ball for East Clarendon. On fourth down Latta intercepted a pass. Latta could not get the offense going and was forced to punt.
East Clarendon was forced to punt.
Again, Latta took control of the ball with little time left on the clock. With fourth and goal from the 6-yard line, Deonte Stanley tossed one to Chandler Matthews for 6 points with 6 seconds remaining in the half. The 2-point conversion failed. Latta’s lead was 19 points.
East Clarendon’s quarterback tossed one to Calvin for a big completion to end the first half.
The Latta High School band performed at halftime.
After taking the kick-off to begin the second half, Latta marched down the field before Dylan Brewer connected with Deonte Stanley for 6 points with 8:45 remaining in the third quarter. Patel’s PAT was good. Latta led 26-0.
East Clarendon attempted a long field goal by #13. The kick had the distance but was wide to the left.
Latta managed to score before the game ended, and East Clarendon was able to get a score.
Latta’s Dylan Brewer completed 17 of 28 passes for 4 touchdowns. Brewer also carried 10 times for 85 yards.
The Vikings’ Deonte Stanley also completed a pass for a 15-yard touchdown. Stanley was on the receiving end of 6 passes for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns. Stanley rushed for 16 yards on 5 carries and also had 3 tackles.
Latta’s J R McClam had 2 touchdowns and 100 yards on 5 catches and had 3 tackles.
Darius McRae had 66 yards on 5 catches and also carried the ball 2 times for 3 yards.
Chandler Matthews scored a touchdown on a 5-yard reception and had 8 tackles in the game.
Chandler Nolan rushed for 48 yards on 7 carries and had 8 tackles in the game.
Brandon Hayes carried the football once for 6 yards and had 5 tackles.
Jay Bailey had 8 tackles while Trey Anderson and Haden Graham each had 7 tackles.
Jacob Roberts had 2 tackles and a FR while Nasir Sellers had 2 tackles and an interception.
Tommy Aiken, Brice McRae, and Kiese Blake each had 2 tackles while Jordan McRae, Matt Clark, and Rodney Hayes each had a tackle. Latta’s Jamario Taylor had a FF.
