Latta School Board Discusses Tuition, Other Matters

NOTE: (Minutes submitted are unofficial until approved at the next month’s regular monthly meeting.

The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the District Administrative Conference Room.
In accordance with S.C. Code of Laws of 1976, as amended, Section 30-4-80(E). The Dillon herald was notified of the time, date, place and agenda of this meeting. The agenda is also posted in the District Office and on the district website.
Trustees present were Kyle Berry, ray George, Vanessa Harrison, Kwame Hennagan, Stuart Poston, Eleanor Powers, and JoAnne Williamson.
Chair Kyle Berry welcomed all present and Dr. John Kirby opened with prayer.
George Liebenrood introduced the school honor roll teachers of the year. Amanda Smith was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta Elementary School. Wade Brown was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta Middle School. Beth Jackson was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta High School.
Leigh Sloan recognized state baseball championship coach Donald Cribb for the 2017 Latta varsity baseball team winning the state championship.
There being no corrections or additions to the May 8, 2018 minutes and the current agenda, Chair Kyle Berry ruled that they stand approved.

Departmental Business
Donna Taylor presented the status report for April 2018 on the General Fund Budget.
A motion was made by Stuart Poston and seconded by JoAnn Williamson to approve the 2018-2019 school year general operations budget as second reading contingent upon the state budget release. Vote was unanimous.
Ray George made a motion to thank the bank but to defer renegotiation of the Ellis Performing Art Center loan. Stuart Poston seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous.
George Liebenrood gave an update on the summer camp programs.
An update on the summer instructional program was given by Sandy Jones.
Larry Legette gave an update on summer projects.
Eleanor Powers shared the Ellis Performing Arts Center upcoming events with the Board.
Dr. John Kirby updated the Board on the Latta Elementary School trail inspection.
JoAnn Williamson made a motion to approve the changes to the master schedule at Latta Middle School and Latta High School. Kwame Hennagan seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous.

New Business
A motion to approve the school meal increase was made by Stuart Poston and seconded by Vanessa Harrison. Vote was unanimous.
Upon the principals’ recommendation, a motion to approve the resignations of current staff was made by Eleanor Powers and seconded by Kwame Hennagan. Vote was unanimous.
Eleanor Powers made a motion to keep the out of district tuition fee for existing out of district students at $1000 for the 2018-2019 school year and to increase tuition fee to $1200 for the 2019-2020 school year and to also set the out of district tuition fee for a new out of district students at $1200 for the 2018-2019 school year. Vote was unanimous.
There being no further business, Chair Kyle Berry adjourned the meeting at 8:30 p.m.
