Homecoming is always sweeter if you win and even better if you win big. That was no problem for the Warriors Friday night at Warrior Stadium as they came away with a 56-7 region win over The Kings Academy Lions of Florence. The Warriors lost a couple of early season games to larger 2A schools but have so-far been unstoppable in their region and class. It looked as if it was going to be a low scoring game in the first quarter that ended with the Warriors holding a 7-0 lead with that score coming from a Diaz Alexander nine yard TD run followed by a Gage Bazemore point after kick. The Lions did try a field goal that was off to the right of the goal post. The Warriors opened the second quarter with Demontez Alford crossing the goal line from three yards out. Bazemore’s kick put the Warriors up 14-0 with 11:56 left in the second quarter. The Lions struck back on their next possession with Jackson Mendez connecting with Carter Parrott on a 53 yard touchdown pass. Parrott made the point after kick to close the Warrior lead to 14-7 with 10:49 left in the second quarter. The Warriors went back to work on offense and finished the drive with Alford taking it across the goal line from 22 yards out. Bazemore’s kick upped the Warrior lead to 21-0 with 8:00 left in the second quarter. With 5:34 left in the second quarter, Alexander hit end John Rourke with a 39 yard touchdown pass. Bazemore’s kick was true increasing the Warrior lead to 28-7. The Warrior defense forced the Lions into a three and punt to get the ball back. Alexander finished the drive with a 32 yard touchdown pass to Bazemore with Bazemore adding the point after kick to give the Warriors a 35-7 lead with 3:02 left in the second quarter. On their final drive of the second quarter, Alexander ended the quick drive with a 22 yard touchdown pass to Jackson Wolfe. Bazemore’s kick gave the Warriors a 42-7 lead with 1:29 left in the second quarter. The first half would end with this score. The first half would end with this score. The second half clock was run without stoppage to hold the scoring down. With 6:34 left in the third quarter Alexander hit end John Rourke with a three yard touchdown pass followed by Bazemore’s point after kick to increase the Warrior lead to 49-7 with the quick running quarter ending with this score. Late in the fourth quarter Ian Patterson intercepted a Mendez pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown. Bazemore added the final point of the game with his kick to give the Warriors the 56-7 victory. On offense for the Warriors Diaz Alexander was 10 of 17 passing for 148 yards and four touchdowns and added 115 yards rushing on 11 carries with a touchdown, Demontez Alford had 117 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns, Jackson Wolfe caught five passes for 62 yards with a touchdown adding one yard rushing, John Rourke caught three passes for 54 yards with two touchdowns, Gage Bazemore caught a 32 yard touchdown pass and was 8 for 8 in point after kicks, Garrett Collins had 28 yards on a carry, Bryan Davis had 21 yards on two carries, Azeon Brown had 10 yards on three carries and Daniel Camp had a six yard carry. On defense, John Rourke had ten tackles, two assists, Garrett Collins had seven tackles with an assist adding an interception, Azeon Brown had six tackles with an assist, Corbin Wethington and Caleb Boykin had four tackles with an assist each, Ian Patterson had three tackles with an assist and returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown, Trent Johnson had two tackles with four assists, Daniel Camp and Ereck Eck had two tackles each, Jared Ivey added a tackle with two assists, Gage Hunt added a tackle with an assist, Gabe Bissell had two tackle assists, Collin Hamilton, Riley Coleman and Mason Bailey added a tackle assist each. The Warriors will travel to Myrtle Beach Friday night for a region game Carolina Christian with game time set for 7:30. Special congratulations to Homecoming Queen Samantha Carpenter.
