Editorial: Credit Where Credit Is Due

At the June 28th Dillon County Council meeting, Councilman Stevie Grice stated that he had not had a chance to properly review the budget and that he didn’t want the council to vote on the third reading. Councilman Grice should be commended for speaking up and not simply casting a vote when he was not clear on what he was voting on.
A motion was made and hands went in the air, and the expected three votes turned into four, when Councilman Robbie Coward also joined the vote raising his hand.
Coward stated at the end of the meeting that he felt like every council member should have the opportunity to know what is in the budget. That’s commendable because he stated that he was prepared to vote.
All council members should be as concerned for their fellow council members.
All council members who voted to allow the extra time should be given credit.
Those voting in the affirmative were Councilman Grice, Councilman Coward, Councilman Harold Moody, and Councilman T.F. Finklea, Jr.
