Five Students Recognized At Latta Board Meeting For Perfect PASS Scores

PERFECT PASS SCORES—Five students from Latta Elementary School earned a perfect score on at least one area of their 2014 SCPASS (South Carolina  Palmetto Assessment of State Standards).   Congratulations to Cole Gasque, Samuel Grice, Makayla Haselden, Anna Howell, and Krish Patel!  These students are pictured with Dillon 3 School Board Chairperson, Betty Jo Johnson, and Principal, Debra Morris.  All five students received an award plaque and a gift certificate from a  Latta restuarant. The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 9.
Here are some of the actions taken and business discussed as based on the unofficials minutes of the meeting:
—Cole Gasque, Samuel Grice, Makayla Haselden, Anna Howell, and Krish Patel were recognized for achieving a perfect score on the 2014 South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) test. Each student received a framed certificate for their accomplishment.—Laura Cooke was recognized as Teacher of the Year for the district. Ms. Cooke will receive a $1000.00 bonus from the state.
—There being no corrections or additions to the August 12, 2014 minutes, Chair Johnson ruled that they stand approved.
—Donna Taylor presented the status report for July of the General Fund budget.
—A motion was made by Kenneth Kitts and seconded by Kyle Berry that all funding accounts for Latta Early Childhood Center flow to the new Latta Elementary School and all funding accounts for Latta Middle School remain at Latta Middle School.
It was also stated that 100% of the teacher related funds of canteen, textbook, sunshine, special services and teacher grant funds at the old Latta Elementary School will flow to Latta Middle School and that the student related accounts of library, pictures and fundraising be split with 50% flowing to Latta Middle School and 50% to the new Latta Elementary School. Vote was unanimous.
—Dr. Kirby presented ACT scores.
—Dr. Kirby gave the annual update of Federal Programs.
—A motion was made by Kyle Berry and seconded by Vanessa Harrison to approve federal funds to be spent. Vote was unanimous.
—A Student Enrollment Demographic Update was presented by Robert McIntyre.
—Larry Legette gave an update on transporation.
—A motion to approve the hiring of Maclean Bracey and Pat Gates was made by Kenneth Kitts and seconded by Vanessa Harrison. Vote was unanimous.
—A motion was made by Kenneth Kitts and seconded by Vanessa Harrison to approve a diploma request application. Vote was unanimous.
—Betty Jo Johnson gave an update on the SCSBA Law Conference that she attended on August 23 through August 24, 2014 at Myrtle Beach.
—Betty Jo Johnson was nominated as delegate and Vanessa Harrison as alternate by Kenneth Kitts to the South Carolina School Board Association’s 2014 Delegate Assembly to be held on December 5 through December 7, 2014. Motion was seconded by Kyle Berry. Vote was unanimous.
—A motion was made by Kenneth Kitts and seconded by Kyle Berry to accept first reading and waive second reading of the following policies:

—IKF-R – Graduation Requirements

Vote was unanimous. A motion was made by Kenneth Kitts and seconded by Kyle Berry to accept as first reading policy JH-R. Vote was unanimous.
