Applications Available Now for 2013 SC Commissioner’s School For Agriculture

Rising high school juniors and seniors interested in attending this year’s South Carolina Commissioner’s School for Agriculture (SCCSA), held at Clemson University, can go online now to download their application. The application needs to be postmarked by Tuesday, April 16.
Students selected for the program will spend the week of July 20 -26 looking into careers related to agriculture, forestry, wildlife management, and natural resources.
“Going into our tenth year this program gets better each year,” said South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers. “The students selected spend a week having fun, building relationships, and most importantly, learning about great careers available in agriculture.”
SCCSA students will take part in workshops related to academic integrity, teamwork, personal growth, and leadership. They can also choose to learn about a variety of food production methods, greenhouse production, athletic turf-grass management, animal and veterinary sciences, packaging science, aquaculture, forestry and wildlife, and natural resource management. The week-long school also includes field trips to Clemson University research farms, the Clemson Experimental Forest, and teambuilding while rafting on the Chattooga River.
Since its inception in 2004, more than 300 high school students have participated in the program.
