John Leonard Hood, Jr.

John Leonard Hood, Jr., 40, passed away, Monday, October 31, 2011 at his residence. He was born on November 25, 1970, in Lumberton, NC, the only son of Annette Skipper Hood and the late John L. Hood, Sr. He attended First Baptist Church of Dillon.
Visitation was on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Cooper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 3, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with burial following at Greenlawn Cemetery.
John was a talented high school baseball player and became well-known around his conference as a double threat on the field. He was proficient as a southpaw pitcher as well as a first baseman. He was graduated from Dillon High School in 1989.
John developed the love of selling cars from his father “Johnny,” a well-known car dealer in the area, so he became a salesman himself. His wonderful personality, friendliness and knowledge of the car business were a hit with his customers. Because of his reputation as a car salesman, he was given the nickname “Hubcap” by many of his friends.
A few years ago John became disabled because of a stroke and moved in with his mother who was lovingly devoted to his care and needs. He was confined to his bed or a wheelchair, but he never lost his sense of humor or his ability to make those around him laugh. His bed became “command center” as he was in control of the TV remote, the computer and his Bible which he always kept close by him.
John is survived by his sons, John L. Hood, III (Tripp) and Patton McCall Hood; his mother; his sister Jodi H. Hayes and husband David; nieces, Heather Willliamson, Brandi and Christian Rogers, Brianna and Haley Hayes; great nephews, Bladen Skipper and Jaden Presley Williamson; aunts Mary Miller, Sharon Gallagher, and Cynthia Lane. He was predeceased by his father and his sister Lynette H. Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the City of Dillon Fire Department or the Dillon Rescue Squad.
