County Council Approves Recreation Request For Out-Of-State Student

By Betsy Finklea
The Dillon County Council approved a recreation request for an out-of-state high school senior at their meeting last week.
The amount approved was $50 and was to come from Dillon County Council Chairman Archie Scott’s recreation account.
The student does not live in South Carolina and does not attend school in South Carolina and the program is not in South Carolina.
Councilman Andrew Graves made the motion to approve all recreation requests presented, which included this request. This was seconded by Councilman Aron Gandy. All council members approved except Councilman Harold Moody, who was absent. The Herald confirmed the vote with the Dillon County Council office.
In the information provided to council, the student says she is a high school senior at Holly Springs High School and lists a contact address of Cary, North Carolina. The program is an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Debutante Scholarship Program that is to take place in Raleigh, North Carolina on November 25th. It does list a set of grandparents who live in Dillon County.
The only requirement that is placed on the distribution of recreation funds is that it receives the approval of the majority of council.
