Urgent Appeal Being Made For JVM Washington Trip

An urgent appeal is being made to the community for support for the annual trip to Washington, DC.
The trip is planned for May 18-22 and is open to seventh and eighth graders at J.V. Martin Jr. High School. So far, 35 students have registered for the trip. The students have been working hard on several fundraising projects, but financial support from the community is greatly needed.
“A special appeal is being made to all those students who went on the Washington, DC trips in the past and have now reached adulthood and have become part of the workforce to please help,” said James E. Moultrie, the trip coordinator.
Some emotional and social goals attendees will gain from this trip include:
• To promote an understanding of the three branches of American Government, their perspective functions, and their sites of operation.
• To extend knowledge of American History by actively participating in historical interpretations and touring of selected historical attractions.
• To give an overall view of American life from the time Jamestown was founded to the present.
• To promote student patriotism and instill a sense of pride in our heritage.
• To increase awareness of the responsibilities and duties of American citizens.
• To review a vast array of subject matter discussed in the classroom by touring the Smithsonian Complex.
• To instill an appreciation for the gallantry of American service personnel who fought and died to protect the freedom Americans hold dear.
If you would like to contribute, send contributions to J.V. Martin Jr. High School, 301 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Dillon, SC 29536 earmarked for the Washington trip or call Mr. Moultrie at 843-774-1212.
