Gators Fall to Tigers 54-51 & 74-40

Both the Lake View boys and girls teams fell to Hemingway on Tuesday, with the Lady Gators losing by three points, 54-51, and the Gators falling 74-40.

The ladies kicked things off with Lake View outscoring Hemingway 15-4 in the first period. The Tigers bounced back in the second, 13-8, but were down 23-17 at the half.

Hemingway returned from the break to score 26 points over Lake View’s 10 to put them ahead 10 points, 43-33. The Lady Gators regained their momentum in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Tigers 18-11, but it wasn’t quite enough to close the gap. Hemingway claimed the win by three points, 54-51.

Lake View was led by Jaquana Davis who scored a game-high 23 points. Tranya Ford added 12 points for the Lady Gators, and Tiffany Waters earned eight points, with Pamela Butler adding six and Britney Washington making two.

Hemingway was led by Kelsey Washington with a team-high 14 points, Angela Davis with 11, and Keondra Snow with 10. Deja Woodberry and Kaniya Burgess each added eight points, and Diamond McFadden made two points. Cierra Dollard added one point to the win.

Hemingway improves to 11-6 and 8-3 in Region 8-A, while Lake View falls to 6-9 overall and 6-5 in the region.

Lake View will host Latta tonight at 6:00 in the season finale for both teams.

BOYS

The Wild Gators and the Tigers got off to a fairly even start, with Hemingway outscoring Lake View by only two points, 15-13, in the first quarter. But the game got away from the Gators in the second, when Hemingway went 20-10 to put them up 35-23 at the half.

Things got worse in the third when Hemingway quintupled Lake View’s score, 25-5. The Gators put up more of a fight in the fourth, but Hemingway still claimed the quarter 14-12 to put them ahead of Lake View by 34 points for a final score of 74-40.

The Tigers were led by Tacoby Nesmith and Dominic Scott with 10 points each, and Dominique Pyatt, Azrial Moye, and Courtney Dollard with nine points each. Also scoring were Jonathan Williams, 8; Pernell Dollard, 6; Jabril Soloman, 4; LeMichael Pushia, 4; Jamal Barr, 3; and Michael Pushia, 2.

Lake View was led by Chris Ford with a game-high 14 points. Jordan Miller and Foxworth each added five points, and Tyrice Brunson and Darius Leonard each added four. Michael Page made three points, and Jamal Ford and Morgan McDaniel each scored two points, with Lewis adding one.

The loss leaves Lake View winless this season with an 0-14 overall record. Hemingway’s record improves to 15-7 and 7-4 in Region 8-A.

Lake View has one more shot at a win tonight against Latta in the final regular season game for both teams.
