HJGT Becoming Mainstay in South Carolina

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (January 31, 2011) – With 12 tournaments in South Carolina for the 2011 season, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) is fully committed to becoming a fixture in the Palmetto State for years to come.

The HJGT, based out of Jacksonville, FL, will travel to South Carolina golf resort towns such as Hilton Head Island, Kiawah Island and Myrtle Beach for 2011. Not only does the HJGT hold tournaments along the coastline, but in major cities like Greenville and Columbia as well. Anderson, Chapin, Clemson, Fort Mill, Okatie and Taylors will also be the sites for HJGT events in 2011.

“The HJGT had a fantastic year in South Carolina in 2010 and we look forward to building our membership base in 2011,” said Mario Conte, Executive Director of the HJGT. “We will continue to deliver strong and competitive fields throughout the state at top-notch venues. This year we are reaching out to new players more than ever with a great 99$ promotion for brand new players.”

One of the HJGT’s specific goals in South Carolina is to get at least 25 boys and 8 girls to play in the older divisions, so that the tournament is ranked by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association (SCJGA). Of the 12 tournaments the HJGT held in South Carolina last year, only one was not ranked by the SCJGA. But this year, the HJGT expects every one of its tournaments to be SCJGA ranked.

“It is an absolute necessity that we fulfill the SCJGA requirements so our tournaments will be ranked,” explained Bryan Fyalkowski, Director of South Carolina for the HJGT. “College coaches use the SCJGA rankings for recruiting purposes and the junior golfers can look at the standings to see how they stack up to their competition in South Carolina.”

Former South Carolinian junior golfers such as Thomas Bradshaw (Clemson), Joshua Chay (Furman), Caulder Moore (South Carolina) and Taylor Zoller (Kent State) played in HJGT events and have gone on to receive college scholarships.

The biggest difference a player will notice while competing in HJGT events is the overall quality of the golf tournament. Course selection and course setup are exquisite; the staff and rules officials on site are fully qualified and customer service oriented; and the pace of play rarely ever exceeds 4:45. In addition, the HJGT boasts a state-of-the-art website and outstanding promotions throughout the season.

The next stops in South Carolina for the HJGT will be February 12-13 at Kiawah Island (Cougar Point GC), March 5-6 at Hilton Head Island (Wexford CC) and April 16-17 at Anderson (Cobb’s Glen CC).
