Johnsonville Overpowers Lake View, 70-54 and 65-45

The Wild Gators may have been blinded by the light as the Johnsonville Flashes overpowered both the boys and girls teams on Tuesday, January 25.

The Lady Gators started things off with a 70-54 loss to the Lady Flashes.

The first quarter was close, with Johnsonville leading by only three points, 20-17. But the Lady Gators lost control in the second, with Johnsonville outscoring them 20-8 to lead 40-25 at half time.

Lake View rallied in the first part of the second half, outscoring Johnsonville 18-15 in the third. But the gap was too wide to bridge, with the Gators adding 11 points in the fourth and Johnsonville maintaining the lead by adding another 15, earning them a 16-point win over Lake View.

Though the Gators lost, Jaquana Davis was the game’s high scorer, earning a career-high 38 points off of 12 two-pointers and 14 successful free throws. Davis also picked up eight rebounds and made two blocks and one steal.

Chessie Miller added 10 points off of five two-pointers, picking up five rebounds and making one block, three steals, and three assists. Pamela Butler contributed six points with one three-pointer, a two-pointer, and a successful free throw. Butler also made three steals and two rebounds.

Tiffany Waters made four steals, three rebounds and an assist for the Lady Gators; Jessica Munos picked up four rebounds and made two assists; and Tomeka Green got two rebounds and one steal.

Keyarah Turner led Johnsonville with 19 points and 10 rebounds, with Lakera Woodberry adding 13 and Rachel Cribb adding 12. Woodberry also grabbed 10 rebounds. Also scoring for the Flashes were Nicole Hanna, 8; Savannah Gaster, 5; Tiesha Jones, 5; Machala Weaver, 4; and Dexondra Gause, 4.

The loss leaves Lake View with a 4-8 overall record and a 4-4 record in Region 8-A. Johnsonville improves to 12-3 with a 6-1 region record.

BOYS

Despite close scores of 11-10 and 14-10 in the first two quarters of the boys’ game, Lake View found themselves overwhelmed in the third, 30-13, to put the Flashes up 55-33 going into the fourth. The Gators managed to make 12 points to Johnsonville’s 10 in the fourth, but it was too little, too late, as Johnsonville secured the win by 20 points.

Jordan Miller led the Gators with a game-high 15 points. Also scoring were Morgan McDaniel, 6; Rashawn McDonald, 5; Tyrice Brunson, 4; Chris Ford, 4; Hunter Lewis, 4; Darius Leonard, 4; Michael Paige, 2; and Jamal Ford, 1.

Aron Mack led Johnsonville with a team-high 14 points. Also scoring in the double-digits were Claude Graham with 12 and Davonte Brown with 10. Other scorers were EJ Davis, 6; Cordea Wilson, 5; Savon Edwards, 4; Erion Black, 4; Brison Allison, 4; Antron Davis, 3; Chris Hicks, 2; and Antonio Mention, 1.

The win improves Johnsonville to 11-6 overall and 4-3 in the region. Lake View falls to 0-10.

Next up, Lake View will travel to Carvers Bay on Friday, January 28. The Bears are currently 12-6 overall and 6-1 in the region. The Lady Bears are 0-14.
