Variety Show Was ‘Rousing Success’

The Dillon County Theatre kicked off its twenty-first season on Saturday night, September 11th, with an excellent variety show which played to a  sizeable, appreciative audience.
Using the format of the successful NBC “Dean Martin Variety Show” of early TV, Larry Tanelli (who played Dean Martin…) led his cast through fast-paced individual performances and clever routines.
Larry himself could be an identical twin to Dean Martin, and his gestures, dance moves and singing voice are sooo authentic!  He was totally believable as “Dino!”
The three very attractive women took on the personas of Carmen Miranda, Nancy Sinatra, Judy Garland , Dolly Parton,  and Phyllis Diller, as well as Grannie and Ellie Mae from “The Beverly Hillbillies”.  They all had good voices and were exceptionally  fine dancers!!
The singer who played Louis Armstrong was sooo believable! he had the audience almost spellbound with his renditions of “Satchmo’s” well known favorites! M.L. Jordan has been seen on the Oprah Winfrey show, has played Las Vegas, and has performed in major cities in both the U.S. and Europe.
The performers gave generously of their time, and they received an enthusiastic response to every act. “Dean” enlisted some local “performers” for a makeshift band consisting of spoons and washboards, etc. and  jugs of “moonshine!”  (This reviewer even got to do a “cameo” on stage!)  Really, there was “something for everyone”, and the audience showed their appreciation by giving the performers a standing ovation.
“Dino’s TV Variety Show” works out of Myrtle Beach, where they perform regularly.
The Dillon County Theatre was pleased to present this fast-paced and very entertaining variety show.
