By Betsy Finklea
Latta has a new town clerk/treasurer.
Ernest Barrentine resigned his position as a municipal judge to take the position.
Barrentine said that he thought he could serve the town better in this position.
He has been a judge for 6 1/2 years having served since March of 2004. He started off as an administrative judge, then became an associate judge, and then became municipal judge.
As clerk/treasurer, Barrentine will serve as clerk to council, oversee the finances and payroll, serve as benefits administrator and human resources and a number of other related duties.
Barrentine and his wife, Angela, are the owners of After Five on Main Street in Latta.
Barrentine serves as the chairman of the Free Medical Clinic Board, is a member of the Latta Arts Council, and and is member of the Pee Dee Workforce Investment Board.
He is looking forward to the challenges of his new position.
