New Administrative Team In Place At Gordon Elementary

By Betsy Finklea
A new administrative team is in place at Gordon Elementary School, and they are ready and eager to have a productive and successful school year.
Principal Shawn Johnson has previously served as a principal in Georgetown. He is a graduate of Britton’s Neck High School, Coastal Carolina University and has earned two master’s degrees—one from Columbia College and one from Winthrop. He also serves as a pastor in Darlington.
His assistants will be Famon Whitfield III and Dr. Wendy Pace.
Johnson said he sees his new position as another opportunity to grow. He is thankful to Superintendent Ray Rogers and the Dillon staff for hiring him and welcoming him as the new principal. He credits his start in administration to Dr. John Kirby, Latta Superintendent, who gave him an opportunity as assistant principal at Latta Elementary School.
Johnson said he wants to make good things happen at Gordon and that is what he and his team are there to do. Whitfield added that this will include improving the current climate and culture at the school. Johnson said Gordon is a great school, and he and his team want to make sure that when students are at Gordon they have “the best six hours in the world.” He said their goal every day will be making sure that students have the best day at Gordon Elementary School as possible.
