Flora Kate Bethea Rogers

Flora Kate Bethea Rogers, 93, died at Savannah Court of Maitland in Maitland, Florida July 21, 2010. Funeral services will be Saturday July 31, 2010 at 11:00 in the Latta Methodist Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 prior to the service. Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta is assisting the family.
Mrs. Rogers was born in Latta, SC, August 2, 1916, the daughter of the late Kate Stackhouse Covington and Henry Louis Bethea. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. Following graduation, she taught in the Beaufort, SC and Mt. Pleasant, SC school systems. In 1940, she married Charles N. Rogers and moved to Hartsville, SC, where she lived for thirty-two years. She was active in the Wesley United Methodist Church, women’s circles, and a member of the Thursday Study Club. In 1972 she moved to Beaufort, SC, where she taught in the Beaufort County Schools until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Carteret United Methodist Church in Beaufort, and most recently she was a member of the Latta United Methodist Church. In 2002, she moved from South Carolina to Maitland, FL, to live near her daughter. Even after leaving South Carolina, many of her South Carolina friends and family members continued to visit her regularly. Her wonderful sense of humor and her positive attitude always lifted the spirits of those around her. She was a wonderful cook and hostess and enjoyed preparing and serving meals for her many friends and family members.
Flora Kate is survived by her son, Charles Nicholas “Nick” (Ellen) Rogers, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; her daughter, Flora Rogers (Tom) Galloway of Maitland, FL; her granddaughter, Virginia Galloway (Peter) Gentles of Falls Church, VA; her grandson, Richard Charles Galloway of Washington, DC; and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bethea Gentles, of Falls Church, VA. She is also survived by her loving and supportive nieces and nephews from the Bethea and Rogers families.
