Judge Lockemy, before beginning the “mock” trial, treated the group to a tour of the Dillon County Courthouse. Many topics were discussed, including the history of the Dillon County Flag and its three stars which represent Dillon, Latta, and Lake View. They also visited the Hall of History for the South Carolina Flag which includes the first flag that we recognized, the British Flag, until the present day flag.

The Judge briefed everyone on the history of Dillon and the Dillon County Courthouse, and noted that the Courthouse is one of the most beautiful and elegant in the state. He then proceeded with the “mock” trial.

Judge Lockemy quickly briefed the group as to how a criminal, family, etc. trial was conducted. He afterwards appointed a judge, jury, prosecutor, defense attorney, balif, deputies, and other officers of the court from the visiting group.

The “mock” trial was conducted, with Shipp Daniel aiding the participants, and the verdict was reached.

The Judge’s final remarks were “whether you win or lose, win the game of life—stay in school and appreciate America.”

Everyone was delighted to have participated and they expressed their appreciation to the Judge.
