Wildcats Down Aynor 4-2

The Dillon Wildcats picked up wins over Marion and Aynor last week in varsity baseball action.

On Tuesday, the Wildcats hosted Marion for a 10-0 win in six innings, and on Thursday, the Wildcats hosted Aynor, and earned a 4-2 win with the Wildcats scoring first in the fourth inning. Dillon picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 3-0 lead, but the Blue Jackets scored two runners in the top of the sixth to trail 3-2. The Wildcats picked up one more runner in the bottom of the sixth, and held off Aynor in the seventh to seal the win.

Patrick Herring reached on a single and advanced on errors, a grounder, and a wild pitch to score Dillon’s first run, and Joseph Scott drew a walk in the fifth and scored on a triple from John Mitchell Carter, who also scored on an error. Austin Moody picked up the fourth run with a home run in the sixth.

Rae Rae McGirt pitched 5.1 innings for the wildcats, giving up one hit, two runs, and four walks, striking out nine. Moody pitched one inning for no hits, and Scott pitched two-thirds of an inning for one hit and one out. Blake Deese also took a turn on the mound for one walk.

Aynor’s Jackson Woodle pitched all six innings for six hits, four runs, three earned runs, one walk, one home run, and one out.

At bat for the Wildcats, Moody went 1-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, and one run; Carter went 1-for-2 with a triple, one RBI, and one run; Kaleb Page, Gunnar Grossetti, and Omar McCollum each went 1-for-3; Patrick Herring went 1-for-3 with one run; and Scott scored one run.

For the Blue Jackets, Woodle reached on a walk and scored on errors, and Ridge Richardson reached on an error and scored when Grayson Long drew a walk. Woodle was 1-for-3 at bat, and Caleb Nobles was 1-for-4. Long and Andrew Lovell picked up one RBI each.

The Wildcats are now 5-3 in the regular season and 4-0 in Region 8-2A.

Dillon was scheduled to be at Waccamaw tonight and will be at Loris on Tuesday, April 7, and at East Clarendon on Thursday, April 9.
