Walker Brumble won the State 4-H Trap Championship on Saturday, August 1, at the Palmetto Shooting Complex in Edgefield, SC.
Walker was shooting on a Sr. 1st year squad with the Dillon County 4-H Shooting Sports team. Walker broke 96 out of 100 targets, shooting two perfect rounds of 25 and two rounds of 23. This was not only the highest score in the Sr. 1st year division but also the highest score of all competitors in all divisions. His squad members were Zachary Sisler and Samuel Coleman. The squad came in 5th in their division.
This was Walker’s first year of shooting in youth programs and 4-H. When he started shooting trap his scores were around 50% and in the final competition he shot 96%.
Connor Collins placed third in the Jr. 1st year division at the South Carolina 4-H State Trap Championship.
Connor Collins, shooting in the Jr. 1st year division, came in 3rd place. Connor and Jackson Elrod were handicapped as their other squad member was not able to attend and they had to compete against three man squads. Even though they were one person short they were only nine targets behind the 3rd place team.
Sarah Freeman came in third in the Ladies Jr Division at the 4-H State Skeet Championship.
Sarah Freeman took 3rd place in the Ladies Jr. division. She was also shooting on a 2-person squad with Bree Ammons. Sarah, an eighth grader, shot 51 and was shooting in the Jr Division. Bree, a ninth grader, was in the Sr. Division and shot a 52.
Rich McFee was shooting on the Mid-Carolina Jr Advanced team which came in second place.
Rich McFee, also from Dillon County, was competing with the Mid-Carolina team from Orangeburg. The Jr. Advanced squad he was on tied for first place and Rich represented the team in the shoot off to break the tie. The Belton team won in the shoot off with a score of 22 verses 15 for the Mid-Carolina Team.
Also competing for Dillon County 4-H in the Sr. Advanced division were Owen Hutchinson, Cole Anders, and Myers Hamer. This squad was only eight birds out of the medal round. The Dillon County Jr. Advanced squad was led by Gately Bethea along with squad members Eli Long and Justin White.
This was the final shoot of the 2015 Season but the 2016 Season opens with training and practice in September. Anyone interested in participating in the Dillon County 4-H may call the Clemson Extension Office in Dillon.
