Rogers Leaving Latta After Postseason

Latta High School Athletic Director Michael Rogers

Latta High School Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Michael Rogers will be leaving the Vikings at the end of the season to become vice principal in another district.

In his 22-year coaching career, Rogers has won 339 games and led the Vikings to nine region titles and four consecutive state titles appearances from 2003 to 2006. The Lady Vikings have made several lower state championship appearances as well, including last season, when they fell to Lake View.

This season, Rogers had led the Vikings to an overall record of 13-4 and an 8-2 region record for second place in Region 8A. The Vikings were ranked seventh in Class A by the latest South Carolina Softball Coaches poll.

Rogers expects the Lady Vikings to play well, with strong pitching from Anna Rogers and Tori Grimsley and with one of the area’s top hitters, Chelsea Welty, who has seven homers and 24 RBI this season.

Rogers says he is looking forward to spending more time with his family in his new position, including helping his son and daughter with their own sports pursuits.
