Playoff Update: Ladies Shut Out Competition As Local Teams Advance

Both Dillon’s Lady Wildcats and Latta’s Lady Vikings shut out the competition in the first round of softball playoffs while the Wildcats and Lake View’s Wild Gators overwhelmed their opponents 12-2 and 24-1 in the baseball playoffs.

After Baptist Hill forfeited in the District VIII playoffs, Latta and Whale Branch were the only two teams remaining in the bracket. Latta hosted on Thursday and took a 15-0 win over Whale Branch in five innings. Latta will host Whale Branch again on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. for the District VIII title.

In Class 2A softball, Dillon’s Lady Wildcats shut out Lake Marion 16-0 in three innings to advance in the District VIII bracket, and Aynor defeated Timberland 19-4. Dillon will host Aynor on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

In Class A baseball, the Latta Vikings received a first round bye in the District VIII bracket, and Whale Branch defeated Cross in the other District VIII game. The Vikings will host Whale Branch on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

Also in Class A, Lake View’s Wild Gators devastated Hemingway 24-1 in five innings in the District V playoffs, scoring 16 runs in the first two innings. Branchville, the Region V champ, shut out Lincoln 24-0 in the other District V game to advance. Lake View will be at Branchville on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

In Class 2A baseball, the Dillon Wildcats defeated Lake City 12-2 in five innings in District VIII. The other district game between Waccamaw and Kingstree was rained out. On Saturday, Dillon will face the winner of the make-up game while Lake City will play the loser.
