A pedestrian died after being hit on I-95 on Saturday night. According to initial reports received by The Herald, the pedestrian was hit on I-95 at the 175 1/2 northbound mile marker. The incident caused traffic to back up for a couple of miles. The pedestrian died at McLeod Hospital in Florence.

A man was killed on I-95 on Saturday night while he was working a scene for a wrecker service, according to Sgt. Brian McDougald of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Coroner Donnie Grimsley identifies the man as James Coffee, a 24-year-old wrecker driver, of Timmonsville.
The accident occurred on April 7th at approximately 8:40 p.m. on I-95 at the 175 northbound mile marker. McDougald said that a pedestrian (Coffee) was in the roadway working a scene for a wrecker service for a disabled motorist and was struck. He was transported from the scene by ambulance to the hospital.
He was struck by a 2012 Dodge van, driven by a Maryland man, who was traveling north on I-95. The driver of the van was not injured. The accident is under investigation pending reconstruction. The sequence of events is not being released at this time. Further information was not available at this time.
