Murphy Competing For Miss South Carolina

By Betsy Finklea
Twenty-year-old Mikeya Murphy of Dillon will be competing in the Miss South Carolina pageant in June.
Murphy is currently holding the title of Miss Richland County 2015. Last year, she was Miss Magic City. Dillon County does not have a preliminary for Miss South Carolina.
Murphy’s platform is “Liberating the Mind” which focuses on the significance of individuality. The purpose is to change your mindset based on a concept of “free your mind and the rest will follow.”
Murphy’s talent is singing. She will also have to compete in swimsuit, evening gown, and on-stage question.
Murphy said her biggest challenge will be to convey to people who she is. One thing that she will be doing is wearing her hair in braids instead of the traditional pageant hairstyle so that she will be comfortable and show that she has confidence in who she is. Murphy will be at the pageant June 20-27th. June 23rd-25th are the preliminary nights, and they will be livestreamed on the internet. The pageant will air on FOX on June 27th at 8 p.m.
Murphy is a 2012 graduate of Dillon High School and is currently attending Florence-Darlington Technical College. She works at Doo Rights. She is the daughter of Cynthia Thomas and Kevin Thomas and Michael Murphy.
