Brothers Get 12 Years For Burglary

A Dillon County jury last Thursday found brothers Daniel and Brandon Rogers guilty of burglary in the second degree and of petit larceny after about an hour of deliberation.
Both brothers were sentenced to 12 years in prison by Judge Howard King of Sumter.
“It’s never a good thing for anyone to have to go to prison, but we’re serious about prosecuting people who break into others’ homes,” said Assistant Solicitor Shipp Daniel, who prosecuted the case. “Without the excellent work of law enforcement in this case, we would not have been able to bring justice to this victim.”
Daniel added that Captain Cliff Arnette, Detectives Shannon Grainger and Allan Rogers, and Deputies Troy Jones and James McDaniel, all of the Dillon Sheriff’s Department, worked on the case.
Assistant Public Defender Will Grove represented Daniel Rogers, and Assistant Public Defender Matt Swilley represented Brandon Rogers.
The burglary and larceny happened on April 13, 2010 in the Dillon County part of Nichols.
A neighbor noticed a suspicious car pulling in and out of a driveway and beeping the horn. The neighbor called 911, and a sheriff’s deputy responded minutes later.
After a description of the car was relayed to all law enforcement in the area, a car matching that description was pulled over.
Inside the car were the Rogers brothers and items that belonged in the house that had been burglarized.
Daniel added that approximately 90 indictments were moved during this week-long term of general sessions court. He noted that the criminal docket in Dillon has significantly decreased in recent months and is currently as small as it has been in the last few years.
