Latta Edges Out Andrews

The Latta Lady Vikings edged Andrews 3-2 to force game 2 of playoff action for Class 2A varsity softball in a game played in Andrews on Friday, May 10.
Latta managed to score a run on an error in the second inning. Latta added 2 runs in the top of the fifth inning that was answered by
Andrews with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth.
The Latta Lady Vikings managed 7 hits in the contest. Jayla Jackson
connected for 2 singles, a rbi, and scored a run in her 4 at-bats
while Lauren Webster managed a double, a single, and a walk in her 3 plate appearances. Jena Stutler had a single and scored a run in her 4 at-bats Kaleigh Caulder and Rayne Nolan each singled in the game.
Riana Green picked up a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Taryn Weatherford scored a run.
Andrews managed 5 hits in the game. Faith Callaway had a single, a
walk, and a rbi in her 4 plate appearances while Dacie Smith had a double and a rbi in her 3 at-bats. Chloe Tisdale had a single, a walk, and scored a run in her 3 plate appearances. Cali McCants had a double. Caroline Bourne had a single. Savannah Moore and Raylee Cannon each garnered a walk. Jaelyn Cannon scored a run.
Jayla Jackson picked up the win. She pitched 2.1 innings and allowed a hit, a walk, struck out 2, and allowed no runs. Arica Gandy started the game. She pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked 3, struck out 2, and allowed 2 earned runs.
Carli McCants was charged with the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 7 hits, walked 1, struck out 8, and allowed 3 runs of which 1was earned. Andrews committed 2 errors in the game while Latta did not commit any errors.
The Latta Lady Vikings shut out Andrews 3-0 in game 2 of Class 2Avarsity softball action played in Andrews on Friday, May 10, to claim the right to face Ninety Six for the Class 2A state championship.
Arica Gandy started the game. She pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 2 hits, a walk, struck out 1, and allowed no runs. Jayla Jackson pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked no one, struck out no one, and allowed no runs.
Although Carli McCants struck out 9, Latta prevailed. McCants was charged with the loss. She pitched 6 innings and allowed 6 hits, walked 1, and allowed 3 runs of which only 1 was earned.
Latta scored a run in the first inning when Riana Green singled that would prove to be all the runs needed for the win.
Latta managed 6 hits in the game. Jayla Jackson had 2 singles and a rbi in her 3 at-bats while Jena Stutler had a double and a single in her 3 at-bats. Dixie Collins and Riana Green each singled and picked up a rbi in each’s 3 at-bats.
Camie Samson had a triple and a single in her 4 at-bats while Chloe Tisdale had a single in her 2 at-bats. Caroline Bourne had a single.
Dacie Smith garnered a walk.
Andrews commited 3 errors in the game while Latta committed 4 errors.
Latta has matured during the season and ready for the state playoff games. The team has unified as one.
Latta Head Coach Stephanie Ard stated “It truly is a team effort. Our entire team, those on the field and those in the dugout have their heads in the game. Not only are the players ready, but also the coaching staff is ready.”
Latta traveled to Ninety Six on Monday for game 1 of the Class 2A state varsity softball playoffs.
Latta will host game 2 on Wednesday, May 15.
