Gators Get Win Over Branchville

The Lake View Lady Wild Gators picked up an 11-3 win over the visiting Branchville Lady Jackets on Friday, May 10, in Lake View to set the stage for the state title in 1A softball against Dixie.
Lake View’s Spivey Evans hit one to left and ended up on second in the bottom of the first inning for the only offense in that inning for Lake View.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear retired the Lady Jackets in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the second inning.
Milashia Wheeler lined one to right for a single in the bottom of the second inning.
Once again, Locklear repeated her performance on the mound retiring the side in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the third inning.
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators placed 8 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Emma King singles to begin the inning.
Baxleigh Arnette hit one up the middle. Emma King was safe at home for the first score of the game. Spivey Evans hit one to left that bounced once and hit the fence and picked up a rbi. Raven Locklear garnered a walk Evans scored. Bailey Miller hit a hot grounder between first and second for a single and a rbi. Alex Elliott hit a home run and picked up 2 rbi. Milashia Wheeler ended up safe at first when Branchville’s second baseman and short stop ran together and missed the ball. Kryston James hit a grounder to third and the runner was out at second on a fielder’s choice. Kaylee Herlong hit one to center for a double and 2 rbi.
Branchville got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth inning on a home run by #11.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Spivey Evans punched one up the middle for a single. Raven Locklear hit a hot grounder by third for a single. Branchville inserted a news pitcher, #11, who immediately struck out Bailey Miller but arrived at first safely as the catcher missed the ball and was unable to throw her out. Alex Elliot received a free pass to first. Milashia Wheeler his one by first for a single and 2 rbi. After 4 innings of play, Lake View was up 10-1. Branchville’s #6 lead off the top of the fifth inning with a hit to deep right good for a double. The Lady Jackets’ #14 hit one to the short stop and arrived at first safely due to a throwing error.
Branchville managed to get 1 run across home plate.
In the top of the sixth inning, Branchville’s #5 lined one to short thaet Baxleigh Arnette made a great catch for an out. Branchville’s #11 hit one to deep center for a double. #00 hit a fly to right that was caught on a good running catch. #26 garnered a walk. #6 hit a grounder to second where an error allowed a run to score.
Bailey Miller hit a chopper to second and arrived safely on an error that would cost Branchville later in the inning as Miller stole second and scored on a hit up the middle by Kryston James. Raven Locklear retired Branchville in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the seventh inning.
Lake View’s head Coach Brandy Huggins and staff are very proud of the success that the young 21-4 Lake View team who also has seniors on the team has enjoyed this year. “It’s really an overall team effort. If one person is down, another one picks up”, stated Huggins.
Lake View traveled to Dixie on Monday for the first game of the state 1A playoff.
Lake View will host Dixie on Wednesday, May 15, for the second game of the state 1A playoff.
